Ladron Que Roba a Ladron

Ladron Que Roba a Ladron (2007)
To Rob A Thief
PG-13

If you are a fan of heist movies this is certainly a Mexican film you will want to see. Like many heist films there is plenty of foiled plans, comedy, and action. Think Mexican version of Ocean’s Eleven… you may even think it is better. Whether or not the story is entirely believable it is a lot of fun amongst a heart-warming cast.

Two reformed, professional thieves, Emilio and Alejandro reunite for one last heist targeting snake oil selling con artist, Moctezuma Valdez. Valdez, famous for TV infomercials has made millions from his deceptive peddling of worthless items to poor Latino immigrants.

When Emilio and Alejandro cannot find any of their usual partners in crime willing to cooperate, they devise a plan using real immigrant day workers. However, Valdez’s money is vaulted in his fortified mansion amid heavy security. Twists and turns abound with this inexperienced crew going up against the powerful and wealthy Valdez.

Starring:
Miguel Varoni as Emilio
Fernando Colunga as Alejandro
Saul Lisazo as Moctezuma

Director:
Joe Menendez

La Misma Luna

La Misma Luna (2007)
The Same Moon
PG-13

This film is about a Mexican woman, Rosario and her nine year old son, Carlitos. While Carlitos is left to live in Mexico with his Grandmother, Rosario works illegally in Los Angeles. Their only contact being a Sunday phone call, she describes her surroundings to Carlitos and reminds him that they are under the same moon. When Carlitos's Grandmother dies he makes the decision to cross the border and reunite with his mother. During the journey he is confronted by a mix of those willing to help and those willing to take advantage. Both his innocence and determination push him closer and closer to Los Angeles but Rosario is unaware of both her mother’s death and Carlitos crossing. With no way to contact each other the story keeps you wondering how Carlitos may ever find his mother.

See this story of love, backdropped by the portrayal of life as an illegal alien within the United States.

Starring:
Adrian Alonso as Carlitos
Kate del Castillo as Rosario

Director:
Patricia Riggen
