Recommended Joomla Modules and Components
74Here is a list of the best modules and components for Joomla
What is Joomla? Joomla is a content management system that is open source and free to use.
Recommended Modules, Components and Mambots: HTML Editor - JCEI've tested all of the html editors for Joomla and this by far the best available. There is a $20 support fee that you'll need to join on the JCE website to get the best versions of the editor, but it is worth it.
How to setup for your site:
1. Install the JCE Component.
2. Install Editor Mambot
3. Install Utilities Mambot
4. Install the following Plugins:
- File Manager
- Media Manager
- Image Manager
- Advanced Link
Sitemap - samSitemap
I've tested most of the sitemaps available for Joomla and this one was the easiest to install and the sitemap adjusts by the user....so if you have pages only available to members of your site then those pages won't show up on the sitemap until you sign in (that is the way I have it configured, optionally it allows you to display the page with a members only note next to the page).
Unlimited Groups and Access Levels - JACLPlus
This component does exactly what it claims. You are able to add additional access levels and as many groups as you would like. I have a site that requires a basic and plus level of access and this ACL component solved the problem. This component does work with the AEC subscription component.
Account Expiration Control - Subscription Manager - AEC
This component is the best subscription manager I've found. It allows you to use multiple different payment processing systems. I've tested it with Paypal and it works. I recommend you become a member and get their support documentation it will assist in the setup for this component.
TemplatesThere are various places on the net to get templates. My favorite is a template called Element by Joomlashack. It is a very crisp and clean looking template. It costs $35. I like the template because it has a double horizontal menu at the top of the site. This is a big space saver on your pages (you can optionally have your main menu show up on the left side of the page as well).

I haven't tested out Community Builder yet. I'm sure I'll try it out in the near future. I like how it ties everything together. The census feature looks interesting.
I've installed it on my site but haven't played around with it yet. It's simple to install. Did not know about the census feature. I was drawn to the fact that there's a lot of momentum behind it so there will be continued development on it.
Joomlashack has some great themes (I think my favorite is Voodoo 3). I also like Yootheme, Rocket Theme and Pixels Paradise. They're all in the sub-$50 per theme range, too.
