How to recover your regedit.exe

Onceyour regedit is disabled, it could be infected by virus and it stops you for accessing it. Also If your folder option is gone, this may also infected by virus one of those viruses is brontok which stops you to accessing system exe files such as regedit.exe, msconfig.exe etc.. once you try to run these .exe's files the virus restart your pc and this make us mad. This can be solved once you access the regedit.exe and delete the virus in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\CURRENT VERSION\RUN\

and in msconfig startup.

First try these steps in enabling the regedit again. just click here

If the steps above does not work, you will use the unhook.inf by symantec. It can be recover using this unhook.inf.

All you have to do is to these codes or click this link unhook.inf

Signature="$Chicago$" Provider=Symantec

[DefaultInstall] AddReg=UnhookRegKey

[UnhookRegKey] HKLM, Software\CLASSES\batfile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*" HKLM, Software\CLASSES\comfile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*" HKLM, Software\CLASSES\exefile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*" HKLM, Software\CLASSES\piffile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*" HKLM, Software\CLASSES\regfile\shell\open\command,,,"regedit.exe ""%1""" HKLM, Software\CLASSES\scrfile\shell\open\command,,,"""%1"" %*" HKCU, Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System,DisableRegistryTools,0x00000020,0

After you copy paste it in a new file using notepad then save it using the filename unhook.inf

After you saved you will noticed that the icon will change into a batch file icon.

Run this inf, jsut simply right click then install... and now your regedit.exe is being recover. Actually not all the setting of the regedit when it is infected is not recover, the unhook, inf is actually resetting all the configuration into default setting of the registry.

Once the regedit.exe is working you can now delete the entry of virus and restart your computer.

Have Fun....

Well, first solution is to get update with your anti virus, but here's some first aid that is more effective... If u think that ur anti virus cannot detect it you need to configure ur windows.

1. Goto run > type gpedit.msc

2. click on System Administrator

3. select on Turn off AUTOPLAY > then select ALL DRIVE

then Click ENABLE

Now, the moment you insert your f.d. it will not trigger the autoplay, this means that the autorun.inf will not also run. now u can delete those virus files...

Hope this will help...

Note: gpedit is not available on XP Home edition...
