Recruiting Up
58How about Women for That Matter????
Is recruiting up really the way to go? Everyone wants to find that one or two people that is going to sky rocket their business. And I would be a fool to say you shouldn't focus on that. But if you spent all your energy trying to find those 1 or 2 dynamite recruits, you would be putting all of your eggs in one basket. I have had people join my team who have built massive downlines, multi-millionaires, and even previous business owners (all men). The thing I have noticed is not one of these people have done anything since they joined my business. That is not to say your people have not, but for me that has been my experience.
Than what type of people work well in MLM Organizations? If you haven't read the latest statistic this industry is full of women - as a matter of fact women make up 79% of all network marketers. Why is this? I couldn't tell you, but surprisingly the top income earners in network marketing are men??? My thoughts are that women in general are more attracted to MLM as many women today are stay at home moms who are looking to work just part-time and don't need to make an obscene amount of money to put a roof over their heads. Despite all of the hype in MLM it does take most people 2 to 3 years to make any real significant money. I still remember as a kid watching my own mother walk the neighborhood with her Avon bag. She had created a nice little business with her friends, neighbors, and colleagues. And she did this part-time while looking after me and my brother. She was a stay at home mom, who had a part-time business. My dad worked full-time which made it possible for my mom to do this business venture.
Women also tend to be much more trustworthy than men. So they can share with others without having the other person grabbing their wallet with both hands - ha ha. Men I hate to say it, but we really have more of an uphill battle in MLM than woman, based purely on psychology. And if your a male and you have a mustache than you really have an uphill battle as most people associate mustaches with villians. If you don't believe me just turn on any of the old cartoons and see the villians (they all have mustaches). I actually shaved off all of my facial hair when I got into network marketing, as I knew I had to increase my odds with people, and people just naturally trust males who are clean shaven over those who are not.
So with all that being said where do you go? Understand this, women are naturally better networkers. Why? I don't know about you, but look at all of the friends women have compared to men? Look at the number of words a woman speaks per day compared to a man. My wife gets 8 to 10 calls a day from her friends where as I might receive 1 or 2. Men speak only 15,000 words per day compared to a women's 25,000 words. Women are relational and men are cave dwellers - that is pretty much a fact. Just read John Grey's book "Women are from Venus and Men are from Mars". There is a reason I have my wife drive around town with my biz Information on the back of her car. If you have a wife or female partner get them to do the same for you, whether or not they are in your business.
If I were you I wouldn't eliminate men from your organization, but a few women can go a long way. And chances are they will just naturally know how to network and it will be easier for them, as they already do it everyday.

Rock on ladies. Great observations John and I couldn't agree more!
As we have read in the recent 'MLM Manifesto' by Randy Gage... ladies dominate the industry but need to step up and step into their greatness so they are building the 'big business model' not as is the case for many, the party plan type small change plan.
Cheers
Rachel
Hi John,
The answer is quite simple when you think about it.
This high percentage mainly exists because of 2 very large MLM companies that cater to women ( AVON & Mary Kay Cosmetics ).
And as you already mentioned, more women are still available to work from home than men. By default the men try to stick to having male sponsors because they can relate better and women usually tend to go with females because of that trust issue you mentioned.
The reason why men seem to dominate income wise is because more men typically are involved in new MLM business start-ups than women. Why ? because more men take risks than women. Timing and positioning usually mean everything.
Let's face it.. if you are one of the first you will usually end up making a very high income as time goes on.
There are women that make massive incomes in MLM and there will eventually be a lot more that join that list as Network Marketing becomes more accepted throughout North America and the rest of the world.
As you and I both know.. MLM may be 60 years young but it is way of the future and we are in a truly great position within our company so as far as I'm concerned, ALL like-minded individuals are welcome to join us.
Thanks for standing with me through our MLM ventures.
Your friend and partner in business,
Bill Strauss

John,Great post -- re: % of women in our profession. You wrote: "but surprisingly the top income earners in network marketing are men???"Where is your source for this?I know many women (single or married but they are primary builders) who earn $100k/month in our profession. Some more than that (quadruple).I know the perception is that men are the top earners, but I wonder if perception is reality -- or just perception because men tend to want the recognition more so we hear about them "making big money" more?
Thoughts?
Thanks for all you do!-Art Jonakhttp://Twitter.com/artjonak
