But little is every though about recycling mobile phones which is a shame due to the vast number of ways YOU can make a difference to the recycling effort.

There are two ways in which you can recycle your mobile phones.

  1. Firstly you can donate the phone to a worthy charity such as Oxfam, they will sell your old mobile and the money made back can be invested in the great projects that they work on.
  2. The second option is to sell the phones yourself, some people prefer to do this on eBay however there is a certain amount of hassel involved in this. Recycling Phones is Good For the Environment

What Happens to a Recycled Mobile Phone?

There are a few parts to the recycling process for mobile phones, firstly the owner has to give away or sell the mobile to be recycled. Sometimes these recycled mobiles are given to third world countries such as Africa where the locals can use them to catch up with the Western world in terms of technology.

When a mobile actually reaches a recycling plant, first it is stripped of its reusable parts like Flash memory chips, ariels and screens as these can be used as replacement parts for broken mobiles.

The mobiles are then broken into plastic components and metallic components. The plastics are then melted down and used in recycled plastic furniture and other objects. The recycled metal is also melted down and reused in things like Cola cans and even new cars.
