I needed something to go on the wall above my piano. It's a big-g-g-g wall. I searched the department stores, the art stores, the discount stores, on-line and could not find anything that inspired me, for the right price.

Then one day I was looking through some sheet music and thought, "Some of this music is duplicated in other books," and that gave me an idea. I decided to make a collage out of my favorite pieces.

SHEET MUSIC I knew I had plenty of sheet music, so the first step was to pick out the music I wanted to use. If you don't have any sheet music, you can buy a whole book for $5-10 dollars. Choose your favorite artist or songs and you're ready for the next step. I chose my favorites, Theme from Jurassic Park, Moonlight Sonata, Theme from E.T., Star Wars, and others. Every time I look at the music, it makes me happy.

FOUNDATION You need something to glue the music to. I went to the craft store and bought a stretched piece of canvas, 36" X 24", but you can use any size you wish. I got the canvas on sale for $19.99. You don't have to use canvas. You can use a large poster board or foamboard. You can, actually, do a whole wall, if you prefer something larger. A children's room wall would be nice done with children's songs.

GLUE I used paper Mod Podge because I wanted a matte finish. You can also buy glossy Mod Podge, if you prefer a shiny surface. An alternative would be regular Elmer's glue that you thin with water. Don't use school glue. It's not the right consistency. Make sure the glue you use drys clear.

1 FOAM BRUSH  This will be used to brush the glue onto the back of the music and also onto the front of the music, as a clear coat.

1 RULER OR POPSICLE STICK This will be used to smooth out any air bubbles.

Lay the music out on the board or canvas to see how much music you will need. I used about 16 full sheets of music. If you cut the music into different shapes, you may need more sheets.

Brush the glue on the back of the first piece of music and attach it to the board or canvas. Wipe out any air bubbles with the ruler or popsicle stick, so that the music looks flat. The good thing is that it doesn't have to be perfect. In fact, it looks better if it is random. You can turn the music different directions, even upside-down. Continue gluing sheets or pieces onto the foundation and smoothing out the air bubbles.If you can't get all the bubbles out, don't worry. After it drys, it looks much better.

Let this dry overnight.

After your art is thoroughly dry, you are ready to coat the front of the art with glue. Using the foam brush, put on one coat of glue at a time. Let it dry. Keep putting on more coats of glue until it is smooth and looks like it all blends as one piece.

That's all there is to it. I made mine for about $34 and it hangs on my living room wall, right above my piano. I'm so happy!!
