Recycle your old Mobile Phone for Money
73Get Money for your Old Mobile
It is estimated that over one billion people in the world own a mobile phone but over seven billion phones are floating around somewhere.
Every year in the UK alone it is estimated that twenty million mobile handsets are upgraded but only three million are ever re-used or recycled, that leaves a staggering seventeen million mobiles every year getting shoved under beds and put to the back of drawers and cupboards that are unlikely ever to see the light of day.
A Growing Mobile Cash Stash
It is estimated that there are a total of 50 million mobile phones in the UK currently being stashed away, if each one of these was worth an average of £20 each that would add up to a total of £1 billion worth of old mobiles forgotten about.
What can be done with an old Mobile?
To try and solve this problem there are now online companies that will recycle your old mobile phone in exchange for cash, vouchers or you can even nominate a charity to benefit.
Most of these companies will pay you market value for selling your old mobile or close to it. The vast majority will also provide you with a freepost envelope in which you can return your handset so you don't have to pay for postage.
Trade in old Mobile Phones for Money
There are numerous companies popping up on the internet that will give you money for your old mobile. One of the biggest is Envirofone and they are currently available to the UK, Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands.
Since launching in March 2006, Envirofone have paid out over £3 Million to their users, they also donated over £300,000 to Charities from the sale of old mobile phones. They currently have over 1200 mobile phones listed on their site and will buy both working and non working phones from you.
Currently they will pay up to £180 for you old mobile which is sent either via Cheque on receipt of your phone or you can have a further 15% added to the price and receive an Argos voucher.
Mazuma Mobile is also another of the leading companies in the UK for buying your old mobile. Similar to Envirofone they also will pay up to £150 per handset, pay for your postage costs by sending a freepost envelope and will purchase working and non working models.
Mazuma also send payment via Cheque usually within a week of receiving your old mobile.
The prices they will pay for your old phone does differ from company to company and its best to do a little research between the top sites before deciding who to sell your mobile too.
What happens to my old Mobile?
When you sell your phone to one of these companies they are usually re-sold in the far east, South America or Africa where most of the population cannot afford to buy a brand new mobile phone.
If they cannot be re-used they will be recycled in an environmentally friendly way. They would be shredded then the scrap metal re-sold to make items like printer cartridges.

This is such a great idea. Sprint offers this for their customers. I'll be getting like $25 for my old LG.
