Recycling dog waste (poo compost)
70Problem with the smell
Dog poo can be a real problem in the backyard due to the smell, apart from flies and other creepy crawling insects that the poo attracts. Even after you place it in the garbage can, you still can smell it. And even after the garbage is picked up.... the smell can still linger.
So you can do a couple of things to avoid this problem; First, you can take your dog for a walk every time after eating, and after picking up the waste, dispose it in a public disposal container, or even one of your annoying neighbours trash. Or second, you can transform all that dog waste in a very rich fertiliser and not have to worry about the smell anymore, and save money on fertiliser for your garden.
Time and materials
To be straight forward with you, the recycling process won't take a couple of days, or weeks. Consider that, after your recycling container has been filled, it will take from there approximately 15 to 18 months to reach the state of safe fertilizer-compost material.
OK, so hands to the tools. The material you are going to need are:
1 plastic waste bin with lid
A drill
A knife or a saw to cut the bottom out of the bin
Gravel or crushed concrete (enough to cover the bottom of the bin)
Digging tools (if the soil is soft, just a shovel will do)
With all the materials at hand, it shouldn't take you more than 30 minutes to finish the whole project.
LET'S DO IT!!
First, place the lid of the bin on the ground to mark the soil around the
edge of the lid. This will give you an idea of how wide your hole needsĀ to
be.
Choose the corner of you garden that gets the least amount of sunlight to
dig the hole.
Dig the hole deep enough to place the whole bin in, leaving
only the lid out.
Cut the bottom of the bin out with a knife or a saw (be careful).
Drill holes in the lower 3rd of the bin.
Place the bin into the hole. Scatter the gravel in bottom so that the ground is covered completely(this is for draining purposes).
DONE!!

TIPS:
-Place some water on top every week. Humidity is necessary in the process of
composting.
-Every time you place dog waste inside, put some soil on top to both activate
the process of decomposing which is done by the bacteria the soil has, and to
cover any smell.
-Once your bin is full, just do the same with another bin and let the first one rest for a full year and half. You can add some earth worms to speed up the process and mix a little with a garden tool to let the air get into it. Remember AIR and WATER... FUNDAMENTAL.
