How on earth do they figure "wholesome nutrition"? You could feed the bag the food came in and do better. Let's take a look at what Red Flannel is asking you to feed your dog in the name of wholesome nutrition.

No wonder Red Flannel has a history of pet food recalls!

Chicken By-products are floor sweepings collected from a rendering plant. Anything that hits the floor and is not fit for human consumption is by-product. By-products can't have "added" feathers but the ones included in the mess are just fine. Meal means the floor sweepings have had the water removed and the feathers, poultry poo, whatever has hit the floor - is now concentrated.

Corn, and lots of it! Corn is a cheap filler used by pet food companies to reduce production costs. Gluten is a super concentrated mix. Meal is also concentrated. The corn in this mix is actually at least 5 times or more the amount listed. If that was not enough corn Red Flannel actually added some ground yellow corn to go with the super concentrated corn gluten meal.

We should take time out from this review to remind ourselves of the good and bad effects of corn in a cat or dog's diet. *Corn, wheat and soy are resonsible for fever, ear aches, ear infections, bad bread, dental disease, hair loss, dry and itchy skin, bloat, tumors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, arthritis, deafness, blindness, digestive problems, inflamed liver, inflamed kidneys, bladder problems, heart problems, and death. Oh yeah, for the good effects of corn and wheat - reduces the cost of pet food production. This does not sound wholesome to me!

Beet pulp is another cheap filler used by pet food companies. "Beet Pulp" sounds good, doesn't it? Well it's not. Just because Grandma told us we had to eat our beets as kids does not mean it is good for our pets. Grandma didn't take the nutrients out of the beet and leave us just the dried fiber to eat, did she? Beet pulp is junk.

Natural Flavor. I always like the way pet food companies hide the use of manure in the ingredients. Natural flavor is made from the manure of the animal the pet food company wants the pet food to taste like. Yep, Red Flannel is flavored with chicken manure.

Brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast are by-products of beer production. There you go, your little pet gets what is left over after a beer run, the stuff not fit for human consumption.

Wholesome, my foot! Ol' Roy, which is reguarded as one of the cheapest pet foods on the market, out scored Red Flannel by 3 points and Ol' Roy has Class Actions filed against the company. Given time Red Flannel will be responsible for countless pet illnesses and deaths.....mark my words!! - Susan Peters
