Red Lights, Speeding and Greedy Bastards

I have to go on another rant right now because I am sick to death of the government trying to take more money out of my pocket.   Actually, I am referring to the police and their stealing money tactics.  We are in a God Damned recession; no one has an extra five dollars let alone seventy five to pay for ridiculous traffic violations.

I have gotten an obscene amount of speeding tickets in my life and paid through the nose to satisfy our precious traffic court systems which mean I am completely fed up.  When I was younger I had a very fast car, I drove it fast, did some crazy shit and got numerous tickets.  I actually got one speeding ticket, drove away, hit the gas and…yep… got pulled over again and received a second ticket within ten minutes.  I had so many speeding tickets I should have lost my license on multiple occasions.  The key to me retaining my oh-so-important license was I managed to get tickets in different counties and was able to take the class a bunch of times and get court supervision; it was a very expensive way as well.

Even though it pisses me off to get a speeding ticket, driving fast and going over the speed limit is a gamble.  You have to be sharp and keep an eye out for the 5-0…if he is in a good hiding place; he will get you.  That’s the chance you take and I can respect that.  There is nothing like breaking the rules and getting away with it.  Most of the time you win, but every once in a while… you get caught and lose.  I am fine with this.  I do think the cops should use some better judgment when giving out tickets such as giving out a few more warnings.  If I am by myself on a highway in off-hour commute times and get pulled over for speeding…give me a fucking warning, don’t just whip out the $75 fine…whatever.

The thing that has me completely pissed is since they can’t physically catch everyone, they resort to cameras and video now.  We now have to deal with red light photo enforcement where they take a picture of your car and license plate and automatically send a ticket to you via mail.  Some intersections have video and they send a notification via mail that says you can watch the violation online.  This is not fair.  I understand that I am not supposed to speed up when I see a yellow light, I get it… it is illegal to blow a red light or make an illegal U-turn…but sometimes you just have to break the law.  Oh, and I don’t mean we should be able to do whatever while driving, you still have to be safe…but you know what I mean.

If there is not a cop on scene, you should get a free past to do what you have to do.  I am sorry if an officer cannot be at every intersection at all times, but that is not my problem.  It’s just a way for big brother to watch us and rape us of our money.  I know some of you will tell me we shouldn’t break the law and drive more carefully but…seriously…everyone has sped, everyone has gone through a stoplight, everyone has made an illegal turn and we have all done it on purpose at one point or another.  It isn’t like we are out killing babies or kicking puppies.

Last night while driving on the toll-way, I entered an off ramp leading to another toll-way and there was a sign that said the speed limit was video monitored.  Fuck Me!  Now they are monitoring a large stretch of toll-ways via hidden cameras.  When will the madness end?  I am already paying out the ass for tolls every day to maintain the roads that have more potholes and craters that the fucking moon, but now if I creep over the speed limit slightly, I have to pay another $75-$110.  Ridiculous!

I imagine there was a big meeting with a bunch of scumbag government officials and police officers trying to brainstorm on how to make more money.  One ass-clown suggested red light photo enforcement and some other bigger asshole said “why stop there, we can use video technology and catch EVERYONE who is speeding.”  They all cheered and blew each other because they get to fuck over the hard working American once more when they go over the speed limit from time to time getting to work to feed their family while giving half their pay to the government via income tax in the first place.

We are getting a stiff one up the ass every day and it keeps getting worse.  Pretty soon they are going to be sending me tickets in the mail if I fart in my car while driving down a free-way by myself.  This has got to stop!

Wow, Adam. I usually only speed when I'm on the highway and even then, I don't like being the fastest car...I just wait for a faster car while behind the right lane and then follow him/her. Maybe you should just leave a bit earlier to get to places? 9/10 these cops just want to slap you with a ticket. Even if you go to court to fight it and are free of charges, you still have to pay court fees which is BS.

Good luck, man.

I had a 68 Camaro in High School. That thing could be scary at times. Sure I got tickets but, the funny thing is. It was never when I deserved them. I once got one for not wearing my seat belt. I was pulled over because a tail light was out. Another time I was pulled over for drag racing a beat up station wagon of all things. If I was racing him he would have been a dot in my rearview mirror. I saw the cop behind me and was stopped at a light. The light turned green I stepped on the gas and he turned on his lights. I never even got up to 30 on the 40 MPH road. He then couldn't fine me for speeding so made up the charge of excessive exhaust. I fought all my tickets and won.

Red light cameras are so unfair. There could be no one else on the road and you need to sit there at the stupid light waiting for it to turn green. I believe their might be a loophole but, I don't know how it works. Technically you should be able to face your accuser in court. The cameras are operated by a private company but the police are giving you the ticket. I loved the story about the guy who got a his ticket with his picture in the mail then mailed the police a picture of the money. I believe in driving safely for the road. If no one is on it and it is a clear beautiful day going a little faster should be fine. If snow or rain slow down. I hate the people speeding during bad storms it just isn't safe even if you are in a giant SUV.

Cops don't even need to graduate college which really disturbs me. They should be well educated. Most suck and ignore laws whenever they want.

What you are saying is that if there isn't a cop around you should have the right to break the law. Should I be able to rob your house if a cop isn't around. Robbing your house may cost you money; blowing through a red light can cost you or someone else a life.

Funny you should mention the cameras. My next Hub was going to be about the same issue. However the cameras that have resurrected on Main St are to watch the stores. One of them recently went up and it points point blank at me. Its like some silent stalker. I cant even pick my nose without thinking about who is watching. I also have to wonder how much taxes are going to go up thanks to these silent stalkers.

Pete...stop it, you know what I am talking about. I mentioned that everyone should be safe. Thanks for the comment however. A rolling stop, an illegal turn or speeding is hardly in the same leauge as robbery and breaking and entering.

Mella, just like your hub about what it would take to get kicked out of hubpages...see how far you can push doing some crazy shit on camera before somone contacts you. It could be a fun game. Each day you do something a little more outrageous and you can write a hub about each day you push the boundaries. I would read it.

Pete Maida, the police officer. No, I dont believe this hub is sayign we should violate the law. If I understand it correctly, its saying that on occasion, we all push our limits, but now, no limits can be pushed! A cop may pull you over or just let it slide, where the "cameras" wont and you will rack up tickets for the slightest of human errors.

It is a little overboard.

I have a brilliant idea COPS! FOCUS ON THE drug peddlers, wife beaters and real criminals!!!
