T Shirts
In the Red Sox nation, what you're wearing says everything about who you are and how big of a fan you are.
As I see it, there are three types of t shirts. MLB produced player t shirts, with just Red Sox on the front and a player's name and number on the back. These say "Official MLB Merchandise" on them, generally come in navy, red, and pink (usually girls only). There are some green and grays here and there, but those are the predominant ones. The best way to get these are off of Redsox.com which will redirect you to the Red Sox MLB page, or, my personal favorite, off the web or in person at The Yawkey Way Store. This is where fans have been getting their gear for years and it's where I get all of mine.
There are the slogan T Shirts. The best place to get these is directly after a game. The street from Fenway to the T is lined with sellers hawking their goods, and I've found such classics as "Jeter Drinks Wine Coolers", "VTek is My Drinking Buddy", and "Love Me Ortiz Me". Now true fans get their shirts right after a game, but I understand that tickets are obscenely expensive, so if you missed the game, check out some T Shirts at Chowdah Headz, Sullys Tees, and Drunken Bleachers. Now, you won't find the same level of crassness and filth online (and thats a good thing?) but you will find some good favorites--including "Insoxicated", which I just saw and decided I have to have. Score!
Then there are the miscellaneous others, the T Shirts you get from Walmart that aren't quite MLB gear, but they still say Red Sox, so they're passable. As a good alternative, however, while they aren't official gear, Kohls sells very nice shirts!
What do each of these say about YOU? MLB merchandise, you're classic. You might support a particular player, you're catching on to a player's hype, or you just like the name (I have a Crisp T Shirt because I love his name).
The slogan tshirts highlight your balls/sassiness (depending on gender). It's also rounding out the collection. Basic fans have player Tshirts--hard core fans get a new slogan shirt after every game. You want to show everyone else you love the Red Sox in many clever ways? Go for slogan tees.
Walmart and Kohl's merchandise just means you're cheap. Cheap I can appreciate, but this usually goes hand-in-hand with slacking in the fan department. So be cheap, just don't be a fair weather fan!
What About Hats?
Now, if you've read my other hub on the Red Sox, then you'll know how I feel about Red Sox hats--basically, it's split into two categories.
Game Appropriate Wear
This includes navy hats, red hats, and green hats only if you are a die-hard Celtics fan. Otherwise, red or navy. Period.
General Wear
Wear whatever makes you feel cute! I have a lime green hat that I think makes me look pretty cute, but I wear it on the boat and if my hair looks less than stellar (for help on amazing hair, read this). Never ever to games. It's just a fan thing, I think that when you're in the park, you respect the team colors.
So as I've insinuated, there are lots of different options for hats. All sorts of girly colors, like purple and light blue. There are the official batting caps that the players themselves wear in gameplay, and there are the fitted and adjustable versions.
A Gorgeous Fan
The Most Important Part
It's totally true that you're never fully dressed without a smile! Red Sox nation is all about families, traditions, legacies, and personality. It's a family game with a family-like community, so above everything else, dress like your self.
Have fun! See you at the ball game!
