In years gone by, we would see red at weddings in bridesmaids gowns, flower arrangements and decorations. However this season, the color red is being taken a little bit further as it is being used in unique, interesting ways.

The Wedding Cake

The most interesting infusion of red at weddings to me is in the wedding cake. Many couples are choosing cakes with bold red frosting from top to bottom, making a big statement at their wedding reception. The cake is often the focal point at the reception, so a red cake is a real attention-getter.

Bridal Shoes

With tea-length gowns becoming increasingly popular, a stronger focus on bridal shoes has emerged. Many brides are wearing red on their feet from bright red patent leather pumps to subtle burgundy suede flats. When choosing your bridal shoes, just make sure they aren't too eccentric. You want your guests focus on you, not your shoes. If you want just a touch of red instead of completely red shoes, consider a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, which all feature his signature red sole.

Wedding Transportation

Instead of arriving at the church (or leaving the reception) in a black limousine, many couples are opting for a red sportscar instead. Just be careful when getting in and out of the car, as sportscars are very low to the ground and you may get your dress tangled or dirty.

Wedding Gowns

Adding red sashes, bows, embroidery and other accents is becoming very trendy right now. Choose from fire engine red to cherry to maroon. If you are a real fan of red, consider a completely red wedding dress. Totally red gowns are definitely bold, but a growing trend, particularly for evening weddings. This Justin Alexander bridal gown pictured here is certainly a show-stopper. Check out Red Hot Brides, a great source for red wedding dresses.
