If you are red and irritated in the corners of the mouth, then you are suffering from a skin problem called angular cheilitis (also know as perleche) .
Perleche or angular cheilitis is caused by the infection of the corners of the mouth by a bacteria or by the fungus candida albicans.
This infection is triggered by the exposure to the sun or to the cold wind and by the constant licking of the lips.
This condition can also be triggered by the build up of saliva in the corners of the mouth. That's generally the case for people who have lost their teeth or who are using dentures that are not fitting properly.
For those people, the over closure of the causes folders to form in the sides of the lips where saliva builds up to favor the infection.
It has also been proven that people who are lacking vitamin B-2, B-6 and B-12 as well as iron are more vulnerable to this problem. That's why people who have angular cheilitis are advised to take vitamin supplements.
Treating angular cheilitis:
Hydrocortisone, which is marketed under different names, is the the most widely prescribed treatment for angular cheilitis.
Unfortunately, this medicine doesn't work all the time, and even when it does, it requires an extended period of time. That's why many people prefer to use alternative remedies.
In fact, there is a home remedy for angular cheilitis that guarantees results within hours. This treatment acts by drying the infected area. And since bacteria or the fungus that cause perleche can't survive in a dry environment, they are killed within hours. Click here to learn about this remedy!
