Why is it so Important to Reduce Stress?

Before we discuss why it is so important to reduce your stress levels we should probably discuss what stress itself actually is. Often we'll throw the word "stress" around quite easily and just say "I'm stressed" but what do we really mean?

Wikipedia describes stress as the consequence of the failure to adapt to change. This actually makes a great deal of sense if you think about it. Feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, depressed, or irritated is a direct result of not being able to adapt to whatever change is happening in your life. The world is changing very quickly now and it is becoming increasingly important to adapt to these changes.

Everyday it is becoming more and more apparant that Stress is one of the biggest factors in human suffering. Stress affects us on all levels of our lives; physical, emotional, and psychological. It is a creeping weed that eventually chokes the life out of us unless we cut it out from the root.

Symptoms of Stress

  • trouble sleeping
  • muscle tension
  • Headaches
  • upset stomach, ulcers, and other gastrointestinal problems
  • fatigue/loss of energy

  • nervousness/anxiety/panic
  • overeating
  • mood changes/depression
  • weakened immune system
  • weight gain

These are all typical symptoms of stress and range from mild to severe depending on your ability to cope and adapt to the changes in your life. If dealt with properly these symptoms can disappear almost immediately, however if you put off dealing with your stress they can become much more troublesome.

The Frightening Truth about Anxiety Disorders

If you are feeling anxious, the last thing you should do is listen to someone who tells you that you are anxious because you have a disorder. Why? Because you will start to become anxious about your anxiety disorder. You will deliberately add one more reason to be afraid and that will never help you (it will, however, keep you paying the bills of the psychologist who is "helping you"). If you want to beat this anxiety then you have to go straight to the reason you have it. You.

Before you started thinking about all the reasons to be afraid, were you afraid? No. In fact, before you started thinking about all the things that could go wrong at the grocery store it seemed like an easy trip. That is because it WAS an easy trip and still is, you are just making it hard on yourself. Remember the quote "There is Nothing to Fear but Fear itself"? It is a trap. In fact, there is nothing to fear, including fear itself. Choose to believe it and you will see it for yourself!

Reduce Stress - Tips that will Help

The secret to dealing with your stress is to find Balance. Life itself is a balance and it is necessary to find your own balance if you want to be able to adapt to the changes around you.

What does it mean to be Balanced? Moderation. This doesn't just mean moderation in how much you eat or work, it especially means moderation in your mind. One of the biggest causes of stress (or our inability to deal with change) is thought. While thinking can be productive and creative, it can also be addictive and a trap.

Those of us who are the most "stressed out" are generally the ones who stick to familiar thoughts, patterns, and ideas. We become set in our ways and this makes change impossible. Thinking about life is not living it, to live life (to change) we have to get out of our thoughts and be in the present moment.

Have you ever noticed that the most stressful points in your day are often when you are thinking about the possible future or the unchangeable past? Life becomes very overwhelming when you think about all the things that could happen or should have happened. This is the source of your stress, and knowing that allows you to get rid of it.

Reduce Stress - Tips

1) Breathe - Focussing on your breathe is an easy way to get out of thought. Take the time to breathe in and out as slowly as possible. Really focus on each inhale and exhale, feel the air entering your lungs and infusing your body. Forget about everything except the breath you are taking.

2) Walk - Walking is great way of relieving stress because it is naturally a slow and easy activity. Make a mental effort to slow down your walking, to look up at the sky, to smell flowers, or even to listen to the breeze. All of these things require presence and being present takes you out of thought.

3) Do Nothing - This is probably the hardest thing to do when we're feeling stressed out. The natural response to stress is to do something to fix the stress but unfortunately this response is a trap. Adding more things onto your already growing list of "things to do" is only going to add another layer of stress, it will also make it impossible to adapt to change since you are trying to change things to adapt to you.

Sit in a quiet room, in a park, or on the front step. Remind yourself that "doing nothing" is another way of saying "dealing with stress". This is the one case where doing nothing IS doing what needs to be done.

4) Exercise - Exercising is a great way to rid yourself of thought but you have to be sure that you are not trading mental stress for physical stress. Too often I have seen people go to the gym and work themselves into a frenzy just to "let off some steam". They feel better for a short while but afterwards find themselves thinking faster than they did before. Find an exercise that teaches you how to slow down and how to breath, these lessons will follow you throughout your daily life (see A Complete Transformation for Exercise Tips).

5) Change - As you do the above you are going to notice a distinct change in the way you live. You will notice that you spend less time thinking about the world outside of your immediate surroundings, you will spend less time thinking about the past and worrying about the future, and you will spend less time thinking about "who you are". This is true change and it holds unbelievable benefits. Being Present will open up whole new possibilities for you, new insights, new experiences, new conversation, and new friends. You will find more meaning in your Present than you ever did in your Thoughts.

Best Recommendation to Reduce Stress Quickly

I have one last tip to help you deal with stress and it's the most effective out of all of them.

Meditation

Meditation is the art of Being Present. This exercise will help you learn to find the silence behind all of your thoughts, it will teach you how to enjoy the moment you are in rather than looking for a better moment in the future, it will teach you how to adapt to any change that you are faced with, and it will teach you how to live in a peaceful and relaxed state.

Over the years I've helped many people deal with their stress and I often recommend Meditation. Surprisingly most people have never truly tried meditation or they "couldn't get into it". Meditation is actually very simple but requires practice and the opportunity to practice. With the world being as fast-paced as it is, people often have trouble finding the time or silence required to meditate. There is a solution to this problem.

Binaural Harmonics.

As I said earlier, Balance is the key to dealing with Stress. The goal of meditation is the balance out the mind (which brings balance to your life). Physically, when the mind is unbalanced, the two hemispheres of your brain become unbalanced as well. Bringing your mind into balance brings your brain into balance as well. Science has discovered this and has also discovered a way to help.

Whether you are an experienced meditator or new to the practice, Binaural technology is an amazing tool. Mind-Sync has a huge selection of Audio programs available to guide you through Meditation and Stress Management.

How do these audio files work?

Mind-Sync Technology uses Sound Frequencies to bring both hemispheres of the brain back into alignment while playing soothing sounds and music. This is a perfect way to Train your Mind how to remain balanced, calm, and stress free. Binaural Technology has been proven to enhance meditation as well as bring about altered states of awareness and relaxation. All you need are a pair of Stereo Headphones.

Within a few weeks of doing the Mind-Sync Meditation Course you will find that you are able to deal with stress easily and that being Present becomes simpler everyday. This tool is highly recommended for anyone but especially recommended for those of us who regularly deal with stress.
