Reduce your Travel Expenses by Housesitting your way around the country
71You can still enjoy traveling
Do not give up your dream of traveling around the world or seeing your own country, since the prices of fuel and food have increased. Never fear, you can still enjoy the spirit of touring. The difference is we have to tighten the belt more and save wherever possible.
Ways to reduce your expenses.
- Instead of stopping off to buy that cappuccino or latte, make your own cappuccino simply buy a packet of 10 with the chocolate topping included from your grocery store. It will not taste quite the same, although it will save you money.
- Make a thermos of tea or coffee and whip up a few sandwiches instead of stopping at the roadhouse and wasting money on fattening pies or pasties. You could then stop at a park and enjoy the scenery.

House Sitting includes free Accommodation
Another way to save on your accommodation is to house sit someone's home while they are away on holidays. This is a great way to travel around without having to pay out for accomodation in expensive motels, or hotels.
Each situation can vary, from looking after a normal household to a hobby farm, unit, or flat.
People require you to live in their home free; in return, you look after their pets, mow their lawns, and generally take care of the place while the owners are away on holiday. This allows them to enjoy their holiday knowing their home is safe and secure.

Mutual Arrangements in Writing
The best time to sort out any final arrangements is when the sitter meets the owner. Make sure you have it in writing what each person expects from each other.
Most of the time short-term sitters do not pay for the electricity, although if staying for more than a month you may be required to pay something towards the account.
Many people travel around the country enjoying the benefits of cheap accommodation in this manner. You can drive from assignment to assignment and stay as long as the jobs and your holiday time permits. As long as you look after the home, you can still enjoy time off, site seeing the local community and surrounding countryside.
Often travelers with their own caravan can save money in the same way. They can stay several nights at free overnight campsites, then parking on the driveway of the housesitting job and living in theowners home, this gives them a break from living in the van all the time as well.
Whatever way you decide to travel, look for new inventive ways of saving money, to make up for the extra cost of fuel.

Beats me, thanks for stopping by
Awesome hub, Eileen! I "invented" a great mocha recipe: a tablespoon of Nesquik Chocolate mix, a dash of vanilla, one sugar cube & a dash of milk. Again, it's not the same, but it beats spending six bucks at the evil empire. You know who I'm talking about. I love the idea of getting to stay around the world for pennies on the dollar of what it would cost you with a hotel room!
Nicole, Yes thats a great idea, too. and yes we know who you mean. I see some of the coffee stores are having to close down because people are realising they cannot afford those coffees anymore.
Yes it is a cheap way of seeing the world without paying anything for accomodation. The secret is planning ahead.
Sounds like a great idea
Great tips, in the U.S. we don't have much of this, it will be a great idea to travel around the US like that.
Louie, thanks yes everything helps to avoid expensive travel
Cgull. You could offer your home and we might come on over. haha Actually I think they do because one of the links Iwent into was from the us. At least I am pretty sure it was.
Great Hub as always, it is a great way to view the country, or the world as well.
Yes just hope the travelling goes better than our other plans.
I think this is an excellent idea. Just house-sitting ones way across the country... or around the world!
constant walker Thanks for reading this. yes it would save a lot of money for stopping overnight thats for sure.
House-sitting sounds like a great idea. I make my own cappuccino too - I bought one of those little coffee whisks to froth up the milk before I pour in the coffee. And I use a stove-top coffee maker, not a plunger or filter, or instant. I did some research on a site called "Coffee Geek" and they said, if you can't afford a fancy coffee machine, then the next best thing is a stove top coffee pot.
