Reducing Stress through Exercise
56Take a Walk to Reduce Stress!
Physical activity has been proven to increase feel-good endorphins and decrease cortisol, a stress-related hormone. I know we're all busy, have deadlines, family emergencies, and other things that make the very idea of getting up from our comfy couch seem impossible, but the fact is, you'll actually feel better if you move around a little more.
Here's the deal, physical activity to reduce stress does not need to be a hard workout. The benefits are reaped from moving around at a low to moderate intensity level. This means you can go outside and take a walk, do some gardening, take your kids to the playground (but only if you're out there playing with them!), and see a reduction in your stress level. Plus, the very act of getting up off your couch and doing something active will make you feel healthier, more productive, and fit.
