Health Care Reform

This seems to be a seriously Hot topic that touches every living person in Society today.  Having the opportunity to experience Health Care, regardless of finances seems to be on everyone’s mind.

I remember talking to my grandpa about his medical issues back in the mid 1900’s.  He was able to pay for hospital births, care for my grandma when she had her stroke all out of pocket.  He said it was affordable enough, and his savings was able to take care of the cost.

Malpractice

When I asked why was it affordable then, he simply said that the Doctors were not afraid of Malpractice suits so the cost and care was more affordable. 

I propose that Health Care Reform begin there.  Allow doctors the freedom to practice their profession without the fear of losing everything.

I do agree that true “malpractice” should be dealt with, but when proper precautions were taken and things still go wrong, well that is the nature of life.  The doctors are not God and they do not hold all the cards in matters of life and death.  So they should not be punished for such.

Personalized Health Care

Another proposal could be that those who want “government” health care, band together to build their own health care.

This would simply mean that those who want to, can put up 15-20% of their income towards a community Health Plan.  Instead of forcing every hard working American to contribute, those who are serious about it can contribute for themselves.

If you eat right, exercise and are basically healthy your insurance payment should be lower say 15%.  But if you smoke or have a lifestyle or habit that will promote sickness or other medical issues your contribution should adjust for that.

These funds that are collected can then be offered to colleges who teach medicine.  These colleges can then open up Satellite Clinics in most major cities, then offer care there for those in the “Health Plan”.

I know of people who pay for Insurance and have an HMO and must travel up to an hour to go see a preferred provider.  So it would not be too much to ask those in the community health plan to do the same.

Community Clinics

These clinics can have interns working there and offer medical care under the oversight of qualified doctors and nurses. 

These interns can be asked to work in the clinics for a couple years and maybe even help defray the cost of some of their loans for each year they serve.

The clinics can also house all branches of medicine oncology, dentists, pediatrics, etc. all under one roof.

The other advantage is that they can also offer exploratory drugs and treatment without having to get approval from the typical Insurance Companies.

Pharmaceutical Companies

Another way costs are driven up is by Pharmaceutical companies and doctors/hospitals all having their hand in the same pie.  There should be not be a conflict of interest involved.

Government Health Care

Yes, people should not die for lack of health care, yet the government should also not force the American public to pay for this system. 

By putting the money into the hands of those who will benefit by offering more classes, expanding their schools, more hands on practice, this could be a win-win situation for everybody.
