LG electronics usa will compensate owners of 10 models of refrigerators and freezers,these were found not to be energy star qualified when they were tested by consumer reports,these refrigerators and freezers use twice the electricty that was listed on the appliance yellow energy guide label.

Under a settlement reached with the us department of energy, LG is offering to modify refrigerators to make them more energy efficient during free in home visits from authorised service people.

Customers can also receive cash payments to compensate past and future energy usage by the refrigerators that exceed the difference between the old and new energy use ratings listed on the energy guide label.

To take advantage of this offer owners can call--888 8481266--LG said it will introduce more energy efficient versions of its french door refrigerator and freezer in 2009.

The settlement covers 5 current french door models with through the door ice and water dispensers,
