Reggae is a style of music originating in Jamaica. In the broadest sense, Reggae can refer to other rhythms such as ska and rocksteady ancestors and predecessors dub, dancehall and ragga.

The pace, which originated in the 60's, is divided into two subgenera, the "roots reggae" and "dancehall reggae, which originated in the 70s.

The reggae is constantly associated with the Rastafari movement, which, in fact, influenced many musicians apologists reggae style in the '70s and '80s. Either way, the reggae covers a range of issues, not limited to the Rastafari culture, such as love, sex and especially social criticism.


Bob Marley

Robert Nesta Marley, better known as Bob Marley (Saint Ann, February 6, 1945 - Miami, May 11, 1981) was a singer, guitarist, and activist, best known reggae musician of all time, famous for popularizing genre. Much of his work deals with the problems of the poor and oppressed. He was called the Charles Wesley of the Rastafarians "by the way he spread faith through his music.


Rastafari

The Rastafarian, also known as Rastafari movement or Rastafar-I (/ rastafarai) is a religious movement that proclaiming Haile Selassie I, Emperor of Ethiopia, as the earthly representation of Jah (God). This term comes from a contracted form of Jehovah found in Psalms 68:4 in the version of the King James Bible, and is part of the Holy Trinity as the messiah promised. The name Rastafari has its origin in Ras ( "prince" or "head") Tafari ( "peace") Makonnen, the name of Haile Selassie before his coronation.
