Introduction
Usui Shiki Reiki Ryoho refers to Dr. Mikao Usui's System of Reiki Healing (as opposed to other systems of Reiki). It seems there are just about as many different brands or styles of Reiki as there are Reiki Practitioners, the main reason being that we first learn from one teacher, and through continued training, research, and personal experience our practice begins to deviate from that which we were initially taught. To teach our new understandings under our original teacher's name would be doing them a disservice, because it's not what they actually taught us, so our own styles inevitably develop. Hana-Reiki is primarily the result of my simultaneous study under several Reiki Masters - one American, one Canadian, two Japanese as well as one Kahuna (Hawaiian Shaman) and an in-depth study of Aromatherapy. Hana-Reiki has undergone many changes throughout the course of its development and I'm sure it will (hopefully) continue to evolve. My more recent students have the advantage of learning more recently acquired techniques while older students have the advantage of learning things I've no doubt forgotten along the way. This manual represents my current frame of mind as far as Reiki goes, and is updated accordingly.
My own Reiki path started many years ago (in about 1990), but it was not really a path I actively pursued. I now refer to it as Reiki Lite and while it is a perfectly legitimate way to learn Reiki, it is not very deep. My first Reiki teacher was a friend of mine who passed on the Reiki energy to me and instructed me that all I had to do is to just put my hands wherever there was pain. She said that all I needed to do is to intend that the pain be healed, and it will go away. That was the full extent of my training. She said that by using the same strong intention I could send Reiki to others (people/places/things) at a distance, pass the Reiki power to other people and a host of other applications and techniques which I really didn’t pay any attention to. Subsequently, the only use I got out of Reiki was to put my hands on my (or someone else) when I had a headache, stomachache, backache, etc. It usually worked but it never occurred to me (until quite recently) that there may be more to it than this. Hence came my continued Reiki study, the culmination of which being Hana Reiki.

- Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Reiki Masters
I‘m serious! Kind of… At times it staggers me the negativity that some people shower on their spiritually minded brethren. Here in Japan especially, just the word Reiki conjures up images of the walking dead, seances and other supernatural hocus-pocus. <technical term> I mean, what ever happened to live and let live. Seems to me every [...] - 6 months ago
- The Reiki Heart
I‘ve heard it said that “once you love someone they stay in your heart forever”. I’m not really sure who exactly to attribute the quote to, so I’ll have to give it it Nita’s father in Brother Bear 2… that was kind of the theme of the film anyway, and like almost anything I hear [...] - 7 months ago

Pattabhi Jois was the creator of Ashtanga Yoga and is one of those [...] - 7 months ago
- Reiki Focus on the Positive
Quite a few people believe that thought is not really necessary in Reiki… that it has its own intelligence and even if you did try to tell it what to do, it would do what it thought best regardless. While this may be true, far be it for me to mess with people’s beliefs, and [...] - 7 months ago
