A day in the life of….
This time is for me!
I don’t want to need a man to be whole? Or a woman? Or even my dog?
But, I’m lonely. I want someone to snuggle up to on the couch. I want someone to cook dinner for. I want someone to cook dinner for me! I want someone to be my steady date.
And, I don’t want to have to complicate my life with compromise. I like it my way. If I never see another shrimp with its eyes staring at me I’ll be happy - give me a steak. That’s what I think. But, I don’t want to go home to an empty bed. I want someone to put my cold feet on. I want someone to hold me till I’m too hot, then laugh, turn over and go to sleep.
I don’t want to pick up anyone else’s cloths off the floor. I don’t want to go to the refrigerator with my eyes only barely open only to find there is no more fat-free, organic yogurt – there is only Yoplait with corn syrup fruit on the bottom.
How could they do that to me! I want my simple life back.
Honey, would you please pick up my dry cleaning on your way home, and since it’s right there could you stop at the store too. We need more fat-free, organic yogurt, the plain kind. And, do you mind getting a few more things while you are there – lettuce, 1 orange, about 10 mushrooms, a sweet onion (not a red one). I think that’s it… oh, one more thing, you are out of mustard.
Where are they, it’s six o’clock. I need those mushrooms for dinner. I bet they are reading a magazine. How am I supposed to cook a gourmet dinner; things have to be cooked in order to be good; I wanted this dinner to be perfect. I really am grateful that tomorrow is it’s their turn to cook. I’m really grateful that we share the dishes. I didn’t realize that we owned this many pans.
Hi Honey, I’m home. Boy, the store was packed; I thought I’d never get out of there. I hope you weren’t waiting on something I was getting. I know how you like to try new and exciting dishes. I just love that about you. How was your day? Did you accomplish that big project you had on your must-do list? I am so proud of you for just trying no matter how it turns out. You are my hero! Do you know that, yes, you are my hero. I brag about you all the time. Okay, now that I’ve put all these groceries down, let me give you a big “I love you for keeps” hug.
Yes, hug me and, by the way, I forgive you for being late
I say silently to myself. I also add silently to myself – don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions next time – as I bask in the warm romance of the hugs of my true love.
Hmm, thank you for such a lovely dinner. Let’s clean up quick and play a mean game of pinochle. What do you want to do Saturday night? I have an invitation to a work party, you don’t have to go, but what do you think. We don’t have to stay long. I’d kind of like to go, not sure… what do you think. I’ll let you decide. Okay, let’s go.
But can we just go to bed now.
I’m tired. I just love cuddling with you – your legs are so warm and my feet so cold. Can I tell you three things I am grateful for today.
- That I beat you in pinnocle!
- That my big project wasn’t as hard as I thought
- That I picked really well when I picked you…
Hey, who said you picked me. I picked you and I’m the luckiest person in the world.
Kisses, huggs, snuggles….
Okay,
I'm too hot...
move over ...
good night.
P.S. I love you!

Hey In The Doghouse,
What is a day in the life of an old married lady really like? We're all curious!
Colleen, this is great. You've got it nailed. Especially the Okay, I'm too hot, move over (that's me, I'm the furnous). In the winter my sweetie's fingers are so cold I won't let her touch me!
Doghouse, I'm curious, too.
Colleen, cute...loved the part about being too hot...that's why I got a King Sized bed so I can keep cool and flip flop all night long and not disturb Sugar Bear and the two doggos sleeping.
A GREAT read about going from despair to hope
