Relax is something that is easier said then done. I don't know how many times I have heard one person say to the other relax, and the other person says when I will when I am dead. Sadly people no longer know how to relax. After being told that I need to relax, I went hunting for simple relaxation techniques. What I found are some great techniques but also how damaging stress can really be especially on a woman . Stress is partly determined by the sensitivity of your sympathic nervous system. This system produces responses to stress and excitement such as speeding up your heart rate, breathing, muscle tension, etc. If you lead an exceptionally stressful life it can cause your sympathic nervous system to be on constant alert and cause you to react to small issues and stresses as if they were major emergencies. This can deplete your energy sources and cause an emotional burn out. To prevent that here is a list of techniques and why they help. First, FOCUSING - find something that you really like a picture, a flower in your garden, a jewel in a ring and focus on it. Try not to think of anything else, do this for about 2 minutes and any thoughts of nervousness should stop. Two, MEDITATION - sit for lie in a comfortable position, close you eyes and breathe deeply. Let your breathing be slow and relaxed. Focus all you attention on your breathing, block out all other thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Repeat the words calm and peace stretched out that will cause you to focus on your breathing. Continue this exercise until you feel very relaxed. These are only some techniques that I have found very helpful myself. I did get these suggestions from www.healthy.net. There are some other very good suggestions. One thing that I am trying to re learn myself is how to let something go. How to not sweat the small stuff. Do what you can do and do the rest when you are able don't try to do everything at once. Of course the big thing that I am trying to stop now to trying to be super mom and super wife. Taking care of the baby , making sure that the house is clean everyday, the clothes are washed, dinner is made or out so he can cook (I can't cook like him) the errands are done, the bills are paid, and then go to work. Sometimes it just cannot be done. Once I master the in between of super mom/wife and lazy mom/wife things will be better. I hope that this helps.
