There are many different real stories that happens in the Philippines in dealing with different ghouls and monsters. Killing these monsters are very difficult, one is they always escape very fast, second they real leave traces behind and third they leave the town where they live if they are failed with their target victim.

But there are many ways to let them get far from you are or save you from any possible attacks.

Fear of the aswang leads many to seek means of warding them off. Rural folk believe that burnt animal horns drive away aswang; that a sharpened bamboo called bagacay protects a sick person from the aswang's attentions. Aswang are also afraid of bullets, bolos, feathers and canes frighten them; and that ever-trusted garlic hung on doors and windows or hung as necklaces and crucifix kill the aswang.

Common sightings if there is an aswang or any monster that attacks, they always disguised as a huge bat and you can hear them they usually circling around the house of their target looking for a hole. In the Philippines people who are leaving in the remote areas their houses are just small nipa hutts and since there is no electricity in the village it is very easy for these monsters to crawl the roof tops and throw their sharped tongue, which is as thin as a niddle towards their victim.

Their targets usually the following:

  • Pregnant occupants
  • Dying and ill people
  • Babies
  • Old people

They said that if you are a psychic you can see them, but these monsters can be seen by your naked eyes even if you are not a psychic. They really are monsters.

If you think you are attacked, having a rosary and strong faith to God can drive them away, you may say the lords name to scare them. But it is not always that effective for sometimes because of fear, you simple run and hide.

One reason if the monster roaming around your house its because they have a target it could be one of those I mentioned above. Things you should do is strengthen yourself and trust in God, place garlics in the windows and door and if you have a bagakay (a wild sharpened bamboo spear) use it as a weapon if you can see them physically throw it, if you can hit them it will make them weak and make sure you know the spot of its wound, surely they will escape. What you will do once the morning comes seek among the people in the town if there is somebody or someone who is suffering from a bagakay wound, you never know it could be your closest neighbor. This monsters will surely die even in their human form, the bagakay is a poison to these monsters, but one thing to worry they could easily transfer their powers to the members of their family so you should always protect your self because they always avenge their folks. Ofcourse with Death too!

Here are other ways to kill these monsters:

Aswang

Throwing holy water at the caranioang aswangs is ineffective because most of them, although choosing to remain unbaptized, live like Roman Catholic Christians whenever they are humans. They even attend Sunday services stepping out of the chapel only during the transubstantiation. To kill a caranioang aswang, one must stake it, or burn it.

Tiktik (The Screeching Goblin)

Stab it with bagakay or sharp bronze and silver objects, shoot it with poison arrows, or feed it to the dogs. A submachine gun, automatic or semiautomatic, will also do the trick. For fun, clip its feeding organ and watch it starve to death.

Manananggal (The Disengaging Harpy)

Tossing sand, dirt, or salt on its remaining lower half will prevent it from reattaching, causing it to die.

I know that there are principalities of darkness, the evil spirits that roam around this place called earth. My mom when pregnant with her fifth child, my only brother, had a manghihilot whom later was suspected to be an aswang. Every night there was a tiktik or wakwak roaming around our house in Guadalupe, Makati. My father would hung garlic and burn rubber to drive the aswang away. But I think it was already late for that. My mother gave birth to a still-born boy, my brother. The baby was greenish and with lots of scratches on his chest. Was it the aswang's doing? We believed it when we were little. Now my daughter-in-law who is pregnant with her first child complains about noise on the rooftop and claims she had seen a black cat above hear head and by her feet while she was lying down. Real? I don't know, but that's what she and my children claim. They are in Makati, an urban area. I am here in Los Angeles, California so I have not witnessed what she was claiming. Anyhow, I encouraged them to hung garlic, burn rubber but most of all, pray a lot inside and outside the house to defeat all principalities of darkness that surround their house. Any comment is greatly appreciated.

All I have to say is "WOW". While I admire traditional myths and folklore, none of it should be taken too seriously- It's nothing more than superstition used to cause fear in those with strong native (primative) beliefs. Aswangs and other mythological creatures are as real as bigfoot and the Loch nes monster- they only exist is our fears or in the tricks that we play on our own minds. Interesting read no doubt but c'mon, it's the 21st century, if there is no conclusive scientific proof than it more than likely doesn't exist. I will leave the benefit of the doubt as I'm not saying the word "impossible", just "not likely". So how did people ward off the aswang before Christianity appeared in the Philippines- now that would be a good read. By the way, your picture of the aswang is the best I've ever seen- Awesome!

My mother is from the a small village called Antique in the Philippines. She told me of a story when she was pregnant with my sister. She was walking three hours too another town or city for work and when she say what was called a pigney, some kind of flying human like the picture illustrated above. She ran for her life and obviously shes still alive if im writing this lol. This was 38 years ago and I believe the stories, I'm sure my mom wasn't on drugs either because she doesn't even know what marijuana and cocaine is. She also stated that during the day they are human just like in your story. I don't know why she would lie and my mother is 58 now. There are also stories of really small people that are like centaurs, half human and half horse. They're like the size of chipmunks or squirrels.

I have my own personal experience in our house in Iloilo, Me my mama and papa were sleeping around 1 in the morning when our roof suddenly submerge a bit with a big bang sound as if a full grown man landed on top of it, whats very unusual is that whatever it is on top of our roof was walking to and pro from the roof in the kitchen to my room until in our sala, I was like praying so hard and I as well cover my whole body with comforter because I was really scared, when that thing was walking past my bedroom, I gather all the courage I have to run in my mama's room to seek comfort, when I entered the room, I saw my mama was very widely awake and hurriedly let me lie down beside her, I told her of the big bang on the roof and she said she heard it as well and she commanded me to keep quiet for it might hear us talking, my papa was so deep in sleep that time, which is very not normal since he is the most sensitive when it comes to sound. When I woke him up I told him to check on the roof to see whats on it, he suddenly woke up and grab his gun to go out and check we followed him and we have seen no one on the roof top. When morning comes we check the roof from inside the house and we have seen a very big bump on the roof like somebody jump on it. This is really a true story from my own experience.

aswang beliefs are also inspired by the western vampire beliefs since the spanish colonized the Phils. that means using silver swords or bullets may be an effective thing to do.
