Depression is a type of mental illness that hampers the normal activity of a person. A person with depressive disorder may not have any interest in enjoyable activities. There are several factors that may result depression and other related disorders. Genetic variation has a considerable effect on a person’s mental depression. Other factors like stress, workload, environmental nature, drug abuse, and stressful activities in our daily life may contribute to mental depression.

Depression and the related mental stress can be diagnosed with the help of a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist may conduct various examinations for mood disorder and provide an assessment on the patient’s mental condition. Some of the common symptoms of depression include frequent mood changes, lack of interest in normal activities, weight loss, disturbed sleeping pattern, fatigue and fear etc. Various medical tests are also conducted for diagnosing the mental condition of a person.

Some of the depression prevention programs are available in the market. These programs include various behavior programs and counseling sessions for preventing depression. People with new onset of depression may try any one of the programs directed by their physician. Psychotherapy is one of the best treatments available for depression. Psychotherapists may come up with various counseling programs for treating depression. During these therapies, the therapists may conduct certain examinations for finding the source of depression.

Medications are also available as remedies for depression. Medications like anti-depressants can be given to patients to bring down their stress levels. Antidepressant drugs can be used for treating advanced stage depression. However, the side-effects of antidepressants are still worrying. On the other hand, psychotherapy is favored by most people because it has no side-effects and offers better cure.

sivanragu, thanks again for such useful information. Many people in North America suffer from seasonal disorders during the winter months when sunlught is scarce. Many of the symptoms of depression present in people with SAD.
