Remodeling Tips for the Master Bath: Designing your Own Personal Retreat

An environment of personal luxury which at one time was found only in lavish day spas is making its way into master bath remodels. And the good news is that luxury can be added to almost any design. Limited only by your imagination and budget, an ordinary bathroom can be turned into your own customized personal retreat. The master bath has seen some major changes in the past few years. Large whirlpool tubs that once were the must-have item are now being replaced by custom showers with a large rain style shower head, hand-held multi jet shower head, and steam showers all surrounded by opulent tiles, gorgeous yet functional faucets, marble flooring with radiant heating and a variety of features all aimed at pampering the homeowner.

It’s all in the Details

When it comes to adding a luxurious feel to your master bathroom remodel, look toward the details. Making use of things like quality bathroom faucets, matching towel bars and toilet paper holder can turn an otherwise standard bathroom re-do into an elegant home spa makeover. Instead of the usual overhead lighting why not use a chandelier type fixture for an added touch of elegance? If you have the added space you might also want to consider increasing the size of your master bath to incorporate a dressing room or small home gym with work out equipment.

One of todays most sought after must-haves in any master bathroom remodel is extra vanity space with two sinks. Here's a great place to add a bit of luxury by using quality faucets for a little added sparkle. If you already have the twin vanity and are just looking to do an upgrade or a little redecorating simply changing the bathroom faucets can have a big impact. Make certain your vanity faucets match those you have for your shower and tub to maintain the uniform look throughout.

High End Luxury

Believe it or not, sound systems and TVs are making their way into master bath remodels. Wiring for sound and built in speakers as well as wall mounted LCD TVs are all part of the luxury package for today's master bath. An important thing to remember when incorporating anything with sound into a bathroom is that the bath is made up of mostly hard surfaces and that noise is going to bounce around unless you have something to soften it. So be sure to add lots of sound absorbing design to your master bath remodel. These include things like fabric window treatments, area rugs and oversized fluffy towels. These will not also absorb sound but also add to that spa-like feel of you master bath makeover.

Master Bath Redo on a Budget

If you still insist on that big tub with the whirlpool jets, not a problem. After all it is your house and your personal retreat. Why not try for the look of a Grecian bath with oil rubbed bronze faucet, shower head, towel bars and toilet paper holder. Use natural colored marble tiles and add lots of cream and tan neutrals, including bath towels and oversize spa floor mats.

Remodeling your master bath doesn't have to be an expensive project either. You don't have to completely gut the entire room to give it an impressive facelift. Sometimes just a fresh coat of paint, some new faucets and a complete update of your window treatments and linens can do the trick. A small but affordable bathroom redo can create a huge impact and almost any improvements you can make to your master bath are certain to make a an equally big impact on the time you spend in your new personal retreat.
