Removing Skin Tags Naturally

A skin tag is something that all of us will get eventually. Basically it is nothing more than an excess growth that is not dangerous. As with everything on your body, if you notice a mole or skin tag that looks funny, you should have it checked with a doctor. Once they have determined that it isn't a bigger problem, the next step is to have it removed. This hub will focus on how to quickly remove a skin tag naturally.

There are many ways to remove skin tags. A few of these procedures require a doctor but chances are you can remove them yourself without a problem.

  • Cryotherapy- This is done by a dermatologist and involves freezing the tag off. The procedure is painless when done right but expect to feel a little sore the next day, especially if you are having more than one frozen off. Cryotherapy is probably the most popular way to medically remove a skin tag.
  • Surgical removal- This involves a quick cut with a scalpel and it is gone. Once again, this is painless largely due to local anesthetic. Then again, if you are going to go this route, barring having a lot of skin tags to remove at once, why not just do it yourself, right?
  • Electro Surgery- This process basically sends an electrical charge to the area and kills cell growth.
  • Strangle the skin tag-This procedure involves 'strangling' the skin tag and having it fall off because it isn't given the oxygen to grow.

Those are the 4 most common ways that a dermatologist will go about removing a skin tag. As you probably could guess, there are other ways to remove them naturally within your home. Here are a few of those ways:

  1. Cover a skin tag with a band aid or Duct tape- Duct tape is also used for warts. The idea behind this is that you irritate the area to stimulate your immune system to attack the area surrounding the duct tape. The end result? The skin tag will fall off in a couple days.
  2. Tie a string around the skin tag- This is the exact same procedure that a dermatologist would use in Electro-surgery..the difference? a couple hundred bucks. Tie a string around the skin tag, cutting off the supply of oxygen flowing to it and it should turn black and die.
  3. Cut off a skin tag with scissors or a knife- This is the direct approach and could cause infection (although this is not always the case). It is simple and it works. A skin tag may grow back in its place though. Make sure that whatever you are using to cut the skin tag off is sterilized though and have some peroxide around to clean the area after you do the deed.
There are of course many more ways to removing skin tags but these are the most common procedures.  Most of these are very simple and don't require a doctor. Why spend the money when you can just as easily remove it yourself.
I can't reiterate that if you have a skin tag you should definitely see a doctor, especially if it is discolored.  This could be something more serious.

Thanks for the info - I'll try the duct tape. I'm all for remedies you can do at home.

Very interesting, this is the first time I've ever heard of skin tags. They look so annonying, lol. If I ever get one, (I hope I don't), I've running right back to this article to get rid of it.

I knew about duct tape for warts but not for skin tags, I just looked at one of mine today and wanted it gone. I will definitely try the duct tape. How many days I wonder? It is on my neck so perhaps I should wait until the weekend. LOL

Has anyone had the duct tape work.

It sounds logical but why do skin tags occur and escape normal attack by the immune system.

I've gotten a few of these before. If they're tiny, I leave them alone. But when they get bigger, they are very unattractive and I'm glad you told of a safe way to remove them. :)

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately the one that drives me crazy in on my eyelid and I can't get a string to stay tight enough to strangle it. Being on the eyelid, all the methods are a little iffy.

The string procedure is interesting, but what if it is too small? Can you use fishing line?

Fishing line would probably cut it off completely once tied but I am really now sure. I know that the string method works. Never thought of using something as thin as fishing line though.

I knew Duct tape had a lot more uses than what my husband suggested! Lol! Great article, I actually had a skin tag and covered it with a band aid simply because it irritated me to begin with. I was just about to go to the doctor to see what kind of growth this was, when it dried up and fell of naturally.

The band aid really seems to have worked for me.

Good advice!

I have used the tie-off method... works fine, takes 3-5 days - no pain involved really.

I have also used the wart freezing stuff you can get at wallmart and used it on a tag.... not a great idea. it worked, but it also burned me and there was pain.

I have not tried the tape/bandaid method - would like to hear from someone whi has and how long on average it took to get rid of the tag.

Hi, this is a brilliant hub, I knew the duct tape worked for warts and verruccae, but not skin tags. Will try this, as I have a couple on my legs and one under my arm which always gets cut off while shaving, but grows back. Thanks!!!
