Removing wallpaper

Tiring but not so tough.

When I moved into the house I live in, it was covered with wallpaper that I overlooked when I was buying... smart huh?  Once I got settled in, it started to make my skin crawl.  It was in good condition but I could not simply get used to it, mainly because it didn't allow a smooth transition to another room.  The previous owners decided to have each room in a different design, but that doesn't work if the kitchen and living room are joint.

Coming to the point.... I decided one day to take it all off and here is how I started.

I researched a little  and I found out that it is helpful if you can poke little holes, not deep, in the wallpaper itself.  Then you can either use a store bought solution or any spray bottle filled with warm water (worked for me) and spray evenly on area you are working on.  Start at one end, don't go all crazy all over the place.

It's good to start at the bottom and at the end of the wall.  Let the solution or water stay put for a little while use a sponge or small towel to even it out.

Remember there are two layers that you will need to peel off.  One is the outer layer which will be the actual wallpaper you see.

The second is the sticky backing of the wall paper or glue that was applied.  The second layer is easy to remove once moistened with water.

You can use a small scraper, be careful not to damage the wall, but it works quite well if you don't want your hands to get sticky.

It's actually fun removing wallpaper.  Just start at one end like I said before, because if you start here and go there, then it's going to drive you crazy the way its going to look, and you'll find yourself spending your entire day, or days just removing wall paper.  Give yourself a starting area and work your way along.  Stop when you get tired, it's definitely tiring, especially in hard to reach areas.  Hopefully whoever is reading this has a small area to remove wall paper from, and not the entire house, like I did.  I did my kitchen, (fairly good sized kitchen) in 2 days.  It's messy work so have napkins or towels handy.

Remember to think about it, if you don't like it then remove it, but don't start something you can't finish, in some cases the wallpaper may look bad, but an unfinished wallpaper job, whether it be putting on new wallpaper or taking it off, believe it or not, can look even worse. Personal Experience.
