Renegade Marketing via becoming computer social

Commercials as a Backdrop
Ever wonder why commercials are so universally despised? Well, perhaps not Super Bowl ones, but by and large week to week ones? Can you guess why I stopped going to theatres to watch movies, though I am a confirmed movie buff? A whole industry was spawned over skipping commercials effectively when Tivo was born.
The answer is quite simple. We don't turn on the television, or go to the theatre to be pitched to. We didn't ask for it; we grudgingly put up with it to get what we want. Or, for those of you without Tivo, it provides a great avenue to get something from the refrigerator. Seeing commercials at the theatre was the last straw for me; I rarely go there anymore.
However, notice the distinct change in those viewers who frequent the home shopping network, watching late night infomercials and the like. They are there because they want to be. They fully expect to be pitched to, they have a need and are looking to fill it. Yet, these channels are just as popular as the regular programming ones. The difference are that those folks are seeking something to buy!
Why You feel uncomfortable
Is it any wonder why you feel uncomfortable approaching strangers with the latest and greatest network marketing idea? I've seen some folks who get used to that, however, as my old podiatric clinical professor used to tell me, "you can get used to a rock in your shoe if you leave it there long enough." I don't want a rock in my shoe.
You feel uncomfortable because chances are very high you don't like people spewing their "commercials" on you. You are at the park, you are at the bookstore for reasons other than listening to someone else's commercial. You are not seeking the content, you are in effect, being spammed with it. Spam is very illegal on the Internet. I heard recently somebody went to jail for it. Yet, it is very legal to approach a total stranger with a pitch. We can now opt out of cold calls. Can you imagine the day when we could opt out of street corner pitching serenades?
The Social Computer Solution
As I mentioned before, there always has been, and always be, a market eager and willing to delve into your commercial properties. The shopping networks on cable prove this fact. E-bay also proves this. There certainly isn't much entertainment value there, it's all about selling stuff. With the proliferation of the Internet, your market can be literally a click away(even though that click may be across the country!) But the most beautiful part is yet to come. People in the know already have a word for it, it's called Web 2.0.
You can now post your own content on such spaces as Youtube, hubpages, Squidoo, and get a few of your very own blogs. All this drives traffic and leads to what it is you're doing.
95% of the marketing you chose to do on the social network marketing scene are free of charge. I'm sure those who put up an ad at the Home Shopping Network couldn't say the same, nor could the radio ads or television commercials we all love so well. This hub page that I'm creating cost me nothing. Yet, through effective search engine optimization, I can reach just as many or more people. And all of them are coming to ME because they are searching for what I have to offer.
Home based business opportunities is a highly competive field. And, as such, it demands high dollars from those on the Internet who wish to get their prospects via something known as PPC (pay per click). Whenever an advertiser is willing to spend big bucks on a search phrase such as "home based business opportunities", you can bet there is a lot of search volume going on there.
Just think, you could tap into that market, and become the one being sought after. Imagine having a list of leads everyday that YOU can make decisions on. Now, truly, everybody may not "qualify" for your MLM; as you have several candidates to draw from.
This whole concept totally changed my "day job" advertising thought process. I used to send flyers, mailers, put ads in newspapers and magazines, and all with dismal results. I changed to exclusive Internet marketing because I knew when a patient typed something into a search box, they were searching for my expertise. Not everyone has a foot problem, and the chances of my mailers hitting them when they are "hot" are slim at best. That is why we are told our marketing needs to be "constant" and "not to expect results right away."
Bringing it all Back Home
Remember our movie and television analogies. How can they get away with it, when most of us despise ads? The answer is simple. They are providing entertainment. We like the program so much as it's almost like saying, "ok guys, you've earned it, go ahead and pitch me." Would Nielsen ratings be high on a television program that was 30 minutes of ads instead of the 8 or so we get now?
I think not.
Think of us the next time you want to invade somebody's space.
Via "social computer" you can provide reams of helpful content to others. You are the helper. And some of these folks (maybe even a small percentage) will think so much of your content that they will want to know what you're doing and involved with.

Great hub. You tell it like it is. I remember the "old" days of prospecting for my network marketing business and how uncomfortable that was for me. I just can't believe that some people do that for the entire life of their business and think it's "normal". It's so....not. When did it become OK to approach strangers in the mall or where ever?
I thank God everyday for finding out about attraction and social marketing. People come to me now. No more chasing.
