56Repair Credit Fast: 4 Secret Phone Calls You Can Make
Repairing credit is tough! To repair credit fast is like a needle in a haystack?
Not really. All you need is to make a few simple phone calls.
The reality is: credit card companies love for you to keep charging all your purchases: groceries, gas, video rentals, etc.
With each swipe of the card, they get a percentage. And that doesn't even take into account the great influx of interest they will collect.
On top of that, late fees, over-the-limit penalties, spikes in your interest rate and more are there to siphon away your hard-earned money should you stumble for a moment. Credit card companies aren't in this for mere profit...
They want obscene profits
It would seem that the deck is stacked against consumers like us. When you first set foot on the road to building credit, credit cards are there. When you need to reserve a hotel room or rent a car, a credit card is necessary. During emergencies, many people reach for the plastic. For most consumers, particularly those who only make the minimum payment each month, this begins the cycle of endless debt.
How can you free yourself from the cycle?
Don't worry. I'd like to help you with your credit fixing.
I used four proven techniques that can significantly reduce your credit card debt. These techniques, when used in conjunction with making more than the minimum payment each month, saved me money, headaches and heartache. All I am saying is give peace a chance when it comes to your financial future. Take control as I did and things can be much easier for you later. If you'd like to see the following plan in action, check out this video. Or if you prefer, here's a transcript.
1. Call your credit card companies and ask that they lower your interest rate.
It's difficult to go through life without needing a credit card at least once in a while. Banks, credit unions and other financial agencies know this, so they position themselves to take the greatest advantage possible of your situation.
How are credit card companies taking advantage of you? You might say it's in their best interest.
Interest rates, that is. Getting them under control is vital to a clean credit report.
Too many consumers either don't know or are too complacent about paying exorbitant credit card interest rates upward of 20 percent. If this is you, you'll no longer have an excuse after you hear what I have to say. You will be prepared to take action!
How? By negotiating!
Let's say you have a large balance on your credit card and your APR is in the stratosphere, around 22 percent. You should pick up the telephone and give your credit card company a call. Yes, with just a single call, you can reduce your interest rate!
It isn't hard. Just be polite. Here's what I said:
"Hello. I'm looking at my credit card statement, and I see that my interest rate is higher than it used to be."
When I signed up, there was a low introductory rate of nine percent. I wanted it back.
"Can you lower my rate?"
That question was worth much more than its weight in gold for my own bankruptcy credit repair. It's simple, direct and polite. In many cases, your creditors will be willing to make an adjustment, as they wouldn't want to lose your business via balance transfer to a card from a different company with a better rate, would they?
Just in case, be prepared to play that card, even if you don't have your eye on a balance transfer. A little gamesmanship can only help you here, and it won't hurt anyone. Your credit card company isn't hurting for cash.
How much can negotiating a lower interest rate help? I got my rate reduced from 22 down to nine percent. With a balance of $8,000, I negotiated myself into a position to pay it off in better than half the time it would have taken at 22 percent. One little phone and I saved over $13,000 in interest!
Does that sound exciting? What if I told you that those figures are based upon only making the minimum payment each month? If you plan ahead and pay more each month, you will pay less interest in the long run. You will save money!
But I still wasn't saving the kind of money on my credit card bills that I wanted to. I was still at their mercy. Would I be able to negotiate the removal of annual fees? Find out in the next repair credit fast story!
