Resources at Your Fingertips
56For the past several weeks, a couple of us have been organizing the spring term of our coop. Being an experienced homeschooler, I volunteered to teach a class. Another woman and I noticed that there were some people that have a lot to offer, but they were not coming forward to teach a class. Hmm, what could be going on? Maybe they don't know what is expected of them. Maybe they don't know what is needed. Maybe they don't know how to convert their passion into a classroom setting. The other woman came up with a wonderful idea.
This woman offered to have an in-service about unit studies. This is her passion and she does them on all sorts of topics. For tea one afternoon, she invited several people over to demonstrate her approach to them and how to channel one's enthusiasm through a unit study. After that in-service, a couple of people offered to teach a class. That meant that all of our class time slots would be filled, and filled with interesting and valuable things for our children to learn.
The message is that we had gifted people in our midst and we needed to tap into their talent. Maybe in your group you have someone who loves crafts and they can teach you how to make a craft with a group of students. Or maybe someone knows how to play physical education games. Or someone who loves drama. In our group, we have people passionate about photography, literature, history, cooking, and science. They are our resources. What are the resources at your fingertips?
