The first time I ever saw food served in a bread bowl was on the fisherman's wharf in San Francisco. I ordered clam chowder in a sour dough bowl and it was amazing!

After a few months of testing the markets in Southern California, Domino’s has just rolled out its Bread Bowl Pastas nationwide—“So good,” the tagline goes, “you’ll devour the bowl.”

When people are stressed, they don't generally turn to fruits and veggies. Nope, they want warm, gooey desserts, soft bread and carbs, carbs, carbs.

Domino's knows this, and they're catering to that demand with a new dish -- Bread Bowl Pasta. Starting at just $5.99,

Unlike Pizza Hut’s recently launched Tuscani Pastas, delivered in enormous family-sized tubs, Domino’s versions are individually sized: single-meal portions of chicken alfredo, primavera, mac and cheese, Italian sausage marinara, and chicken carbonara pastas, baked into edible bowls.

And if none of these sound good, customers can build their own—starting with a penne base, you can top it with alfredo, three-cheese or marinara sauce, and add up to three meat or veggie toppings (including bacon, salami and Philly steak). If you feel like lightening things up a bit, you can order the pasta without the bread (and knock a dollar off the price in the process).

Lets see how we can make these at home without too much effort.

I don't make bread from scratch. Its just too time consuming. The key to these dishes is the bread of course. Below are two videos on how to make bread bowls using frozen bread dough like you se to the right or you can always pick up fresh bread bowls from the bakery at your local Walmart Supercenter.

How to Cut Store Bought Bowls

Once you have your bread bowls prepared. Its just a matter of filling them with whatever your heart desires.

For the Dominos versions boil your pasta and add you favorite meats, veggies and sauce. Use small pastas like penne, elbows, rotini or small shells. Cook everything on the stove or in a skillet until completely done. Then fill the bowl. You can place the bowls under the oven broiler to melt cheese on the top.

My favorites the very easy way

Kraft Macaroni and cheese with crumbled bacon on top
Grilled chicken tenders with pasta and Ragu Alfredo sauce
Sausage, pepperoni and mushrooms with pasta and Ragu spagetti sauce
