Findings and Facts

For several years researchers and scientists have been trying to learn more about the molecules and antioxidants found in red wine. For years experiments and tests have been done on mice, fruit flies and short living fish to determine what antioxidants work to increase longevity, prevent heart disease and cancerous causing free radicals and help to restore good blood cells back to the heart and replace bad cholesterol with good cholesterol.

According to studies done in mice, the antioxidant resveratrol was found to increase good cholesterol, prevent cancer and heart disease and increased the life span of the mice. Dietary supplement companies got wind of this news and went about creating and producing new dietary supplements which contain high levels of resveratrol.

But research has not been completed or conducted on humans to determine which levels of the antioxidant would actually be beneficial for a human before results are actually seen.

The only findings are that resveratrol is found in grapes and in red wine where the skins of the grape have been fermented with the rest of the wine. White wines, beer and liqour do not contain near as high of levels of resveratrol as red wine alone does. But while the levels are high in red wine, one would have to drink around 100 to possibly even 1,000 glasses of wine per day... it's not possible to do so without killing yourself... so what's the next best idea?

Although some alcohol is good for you, along with the resveratrol found in red wine, there are also several bad and harming side effects from alcohol; drinking in moderation is recommended if one can handle doing so. Eating fruits is what is recommended by researchers. By eating fruits that are high in resveratrol you don't have to worry about harmful side effects and can concentrate on lowering your cholesterol and preventing heart disease; taking an extra antioxidant supplement can be good for boosting your metabolism to help you loose weight and prevent cancer.

Common fruits Resveratrol is found in:

  • grapes
  • grape fruit
  • oranges
  • blueberries
  • cranberries

Resveratrol can also be found in peanuts and grape juice.

Release without results

While resveratrol sounds great, it's not a great idea to take a supplement that has not undergone any human trials. Researchers as still trying to learn about resveratrol and which levels humans should ingest before results begin to take form. It is not safe to take something without knowing much about what possible effects it might have on your body presently or in the future.

It is also not recommended to drink large quantities of alcohol just because resveratrol is said to be found in red wine. Be smart with drinking, and if you want to drink because of the simple fact that resveratrol is found in red wine, please drink in moderation; 2 glasses for a male and 1 for a female would be considered moderation.

If you simply can't wait for reseachers to finish their studies on resveratrol, you can start growing your own fruit garden and consume high amounts of fruit each day; plus growing your own garden is a great way to help the planet!

While it's wrong for companies to release a product without proven and tested results done on humans rather than animals, it does happen and it is up to you to decide whether you want to take the risk of being the guinea pig/ martyr.
