For some people retirement at the end of a busy working life can come as quite a culture shock. Other people take a different view, actively looking forward to time they can dedicate to themselves. They will have their retirement planning done well in advance of the big day, so they can be sure they are going to get the most out of it. Their retirement planning will, no doubt, include such things as being able to spend more quality time with loved ones, developing old hobbies or even trying out new ones. Some might even consider part time employment or returning to education.

When the pressures and strains of working life start to get you down; when it seems you have no time at all for the people and things that mean the most to you; this is when you should start your retirement planning! Your retirement years should be when you get to reap the benefits of all the sacrifices you have to make during the working years. When thinking about retirement planning, focus on what is to be gained rather than what might be lost. Remember, there are people out there who care for you and would be delighted to see much more of you.

Many of us have interests or abilities which are far from fully utilized in our day to day employment. We may have hobbies and interests that have been pushed aside by the pressures of working for a living. Don't let these talents disappear. Make space for them to flower when you are doing your retirement planning. This beautiful and exciting world has a lot to offer for those with travel on their mind. Make the most of the opportunity and let it help make your retirement a happier, more fulfilling phase of your life.

You might not want to stop work completely though. Many people enjoy the social contact and mental activity working brings. You might decide you still want to keep a toe-hold in the world of work. So, keep the opportunity of part-time employment in mind when you do your retirement planning.

This option might help keep you active and keep you in touch with old colleagues. It might also provide an income to supplement your pension and increase your financial security. You might think no one would employ a person past retirement age - but you would be wrong! Many organizations value the experience and stability older workers bring to their organizations.

With all of the above in mind, make sure you organize your retirement planning in a way that ensures the best outcome for you. Your retirement planning should enable you to fully experience and enjoy the best years of your life; the Golden Years. You are entering a new era. Dare to dream! With proper retirement planning, designed to suit your needs, you should be able to live a live that will be the envy of your colleague who still have to work for a living.
