Review Of The Amway Global Business
Amway is one of the biggest direct selling MLM companies in the world. Today, Amway sells a large variety of products, primarily in the areas of home care and health and beauty products.
Amway was founded in 1959 in Ada, Michigan by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos. By the end of 2008 the company was worth US 8.2 billion dollars. While Amway sell everything from jewelry, and electronic products to vitamin supplements and insurance, their biggest selling products are the health and beauty range, which account for almost 60% of worldwide sales.
The Amway global business is currently in more than ninety countries worldwide. Amway Canada began in 1962, which was followed by Australia in 1971, Europe in 1973, parts of Asia in 1974, Japan in 1979, Latin America in 1985, India and Scandinavia in 1998, Russia in 2005 and Vietnam in 2008.
The first product the Amway founders developed was a concentrated organic cleaner which they called Frisk, the name was later changed to LOC (Liquid Organic Concentrate), the name it’s still known by today.
Amway products soon added other items to the inventory, including the laundry detergent SA8 in 1960, and the hair care product Satinique in 1965. Their best selling cosmetic line, Artistry, was released in 1968. At the present time, the Amway global business manufactures over 450 products, which are manufactured at facilities in Ada, Michigan, China, and India, and they also have Nutrilite organic farms (for their vitamin and supplement range) in California, Washington State, Mexico, and Brazil.
In addition to their own product line, Amway affiliates market items from hundreds of other manufacturers (including books, wine, and food products).
The Amway business model combines MLM with direct selling. Business owners (known as IBOs) may both market the products and train other people to become IBOs themselves. Income is generated both through direct sales and also via sales generated through their downline. IBOs are also eligible to buy products at a reduced rate, so some join simply for this opportunity.
While there are those who see Amway as a global scam, the fact that the company has been successfully operating for fifty years, and is now recognized worldwide, is testament to its success. There are hundreds of Amway multimillionaires worldwide, and thousands of others who earn an excellent living through the Amway business.
One of the biggest hurdles faced by new Amway IBOs is recruiting new people for their organization. IBOs are encouraged to seek out family, friends, acquaintances and neighbors, few of whom are really interested in the business opportunity (although many of whom may be happy to purchase products). The majority of new Amway distributors who wish to create a long standing business seek out new ways of finding qualified, interested prospects, so they can better spend their time recruiting those who are interested in becoming business owners themselves.
