Review: Wii Zapper Gun

What is the Wii Zapper Gun?
The Wii Zapper Gun is a peripheral unit that utilizes the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to simular the use of a pistol, rifle or crossbow. It comes with Link's Crossbow Training, uses The Legend of Zelda's protagonist to show you how to use the Wii Zapper Gun. It offers calibration tests and games to play as target practice to help get used to the feel of the gun. The Wii Zapper Gun can be used in a variety of games, such as Call of Duty, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and other first person shooters. While you can use the Zapper Gun in other games, it may be uncomfortable if you are not using it for shooting. However, once you get used to it, it can take some time to get used to using the Wiimote and Nunchuk separately.

How do you use it?
In order to use the Wii Zapper Gun, you have to take the Wiimote out of its grip and insert it in the top of the unit. You wrap the wrist strap around the gun, then snap it into place with two prongs that keep it secure and allow you to point the gun towards the screen to interact with the sensor bar similar to a crosshair. Once the Remote is secure, you take the Nunchuk and place it in the bottom where the grip of the Wii Zapper Gun. You hide the cord in the actual gun itself and then sit the Nunchuk into the unit. Once this, too, is secure, you can now hold onto the Zapper Gun similar to how you would a gun utilizing the trigger button utilized in its design to shoot.
Is it worth it?
The Wii Zapper Gun coupled with Link's Crossbow Training is an excellent way to learn how to use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as a pistol for first person shooters. Working your way through the levels in the training game helps your game play in the games you might use it for. Over time, the feel of the Wii Zapper Gun becomes natural and the trigger allows for a more realistic feel during game play. There are many third party gun-related peripherals on the market, but the Wii Zapper Gun is worth its money and more.
