Review of Beneful dog food by Purina.
71I thought that I would make this hub to warn others about Beneful dog food by purina. My dog liked it and it was cheap, but I had to stop feeding it to him due to some major issues that he was having. He was getting allergies and a weakened immune system from this dog food.
On dog food reviews Beneful is rated a 1/6 stars. The company tries to make it look like a good premium dog food but it is NOT. They list ingredients in dog food by what it has the most of. Corn is not any good for dogs, they can have allergies from it and cannot properly digest it. It also has added colorings in it. Why does a dog food need coloring? These same colorings are highly debated and known to cause many cancers and other health risks.
You can easily find a better higher quality food for a higher price on todays market. Find something without these added colors and corn. Perhaps something with a bit more meat at the begining of the ingredients list. Your dog will thank you later!

beneful is the worstt :)
Take some advice, from a person who is giving their two beloved pets insulin 2 x per day, and don't feed your dogs Beneful dogfood. The one ingredient they don't put on the bag is carbohydrates (41%). Plus they add sugar & sorbitol which are sweetners alone. It took one year (3 months apart) of a solely Beneful diet for our dogs to have diabetes, blindness (from cataracts-side effect of diabetes) and need 2 x insulin shots per day. My wife and I cannot even leave home overnight, at the same time, without paying two vet bills for boarding. We have a claim filed with Purina but I never expect to get a "thin" dime. Also, one other note: Purina is also involved in class action lawsuit for misrepresenting Beneful ingredients. A word to the wise is sufficient.
we adoped an 11 month old puppy in 2006 and her previous "owner's" (and i use the term loosely) were feeding her adult beneful! :( she has had chronic health issues from day one, and I know it is largely due to the horrible food she ate in her formative months. We've spent thousands of dollars on vet bills to try to get her healthy. If I weren't an Energy Healer, I don't think she would have lived through it!
Oh my God..I guess people are not happy unless they are complaining about something. I highly doubt that Beneful is why you are having to give your dog insulin shots but good luck with getting money from Purina. My dog has eaten the stuff her entire life, she is now 6 and NO health issues at all. My veterinarian has no complaints with it at all. The only food she told me to stay away from was Ol' Roy and grocery store brand foods. I work at a kennel and ALL those people who have been fooled into thinking the more expensive the better, they always come in complaining about how their dogs have extreme stomach issues and don't understand why..I mean..of my goodness..they spent 40 dollars on this bag..it should be gold!! HAHA..do your own research and make decisions for yourself. I will continue to feed my dog Purina...tata
My Vet just informed me that Beneful and Kibble and Bits are the two worse dog foods to give me dogs. He also said that Beneful was very high in carbohydrates but more importantly he said that each case he has treated male dogs with calcium oxalate crystals all pet owners were feeding their male dogs either Kibble and Bits or Beneful. My little male Chihuahua had to have surgery twice in two years to flush out these crystals that are like little pieces of glass and one stone was the size of a dime. He is going on Science Diet U/D for the next 4-6 months and then after I will be searching for a healthier food for him and his sister. Just because the commercial looks good and sounds good we must remember their mind set is selling a product where our hearts and minds are on the health and welfare of our dear pets.
I recently started my dog on Beneful, and he seemed to like it, but began throwing up after a few weeks, became lethargic and his gums were very pale.
I stopped feeding him Beneful and he is recovering. I think the reason it affects some dogs and not others is that some dogs have allergies and some do not. My dog has unspecified allergies - the vet isn't sure why Spike itches so much - so it's possible that he's allergic to one or more of the ingredients commonly found in most dog foods, and perhaps he's allergic to several of the ingredients in Beneful, prompting a more severe reaction?
I'm switching him to a grain-free food to see if that might clear up his skin condition.
The last time I used Beneful dog food, I had to take my dog to the VET. Id prefer a brand like Pedigree.
Pedigree is as bad or worse than Beneful, Seourl. Go to a specialty store and look for a food with either no grains or very little HIGH QUALITY grains, and plenty of named meat in the first few ingredients, something like Innova or Orijen.
