Apple iPod Shuffle 2nd Generation - Wow - What a pleasant surprise!

I have most things that others crave for and generally feel that life has been good to me. However, there are occasions when I feel that there is something missing in my life. Though I am a music fanatic, I still do not possess any portable music player. To be frank, I have checked out most of the players available in the market and they did not appeal to me. However, when I chanced upon the second generation iPod Shuffle, I was blown off my feet. I know that the name Apple is synonymous for exquisitely designed hardware, but I was not prepared by the cute object my eyes fell upon.

How could their engineers manage to put so much power in a box that is just as thick like an AAA battery and takes less real estate than a matchbook? To be frank, it was the quality of the packing that first caught my eye. When I lifted the gizmo, I was amazed. It is quite heavy and solid despite being so small and dispelled all fears about fragility that I harbored. The buffed aluminum shell is pleasing to the touch and so are the small round buttons. The miniature doc that the iPod shuffle second generation ships with takes the player comfortable and I did not have any problems detaching the player from the dock too. Since connecting to iTunes is the same as with any other iPod, that is no issue.

However, you have to connect to iTunes using your broadband connection since this version of iPod cannot connect to iTunes directly. Using this piece of wizardry from Apple was quite easy since I have used other iPods before and the interface is the same. The main buttons upfront control play, rewind, fast forward etc. The 2 round metallic switches at the bottom of the player control power and for shuffling between straight playback modes to shuffle mode. Hey, I nearly forgot to tell about the packing this beauty comes in. I was really amazed by the tough plastic shell that was secured to the backing place by a thin and invisible strap of plastic. The package also contains a miniature dock and the headphones. Overall, the iPod shuffle second generation works as well as its predecessors and its diminutive size do not diminish its functionality at all. But this is the Apple approach towards gadgets.
