Hair loss can be treated with a variety of options.  The product Revivogen is formulated by a dermatologist to combat the hair loss associated with male and female pattern baldness. Pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia, is a genetically caused hair loss phenomenon. If a man or woman has first or second level ancestors of the same sex who experienced pattern hair loss, he or she will be at a greater risk for baldness. Treating baldness caused by androgenic alopecia is the number one reason people look for a way to regrow hair. Of course some people will experience hair loss from accidents or other medical conditions but most of the people who are searching for a way to get their hair back are doing so because of this problem.

It was once believed that male pattern baldness followed the mother's side of the family as far a genetic factors go. For example, I remember when I was younger hearing that if a mother's brothers were bald then the sons were more likely to be bald. Although there is a correlation in this manner there is also a correlation on the father's side. In reality it doesn't matter which side of the family the genetic factors for situations requiring hair restoration techniques come from, if a man or woman has the genetic predisposition for pattern baldness they will probably experience it.

Revivogen scalp therapy is supposedly formulated to combat the genetic factors that lead to this cause for baldness. Revivogen shampoo is a shampoo that is marketed as a way to apply the formula to the scalp. This product was developed by a dermatologist to, according to his web site, slow the thinning of hair in men and women by helping to stop DHT.

DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, is a metabolite of testosterone. Testosterone is a male hormone that is actually found in both men and women. It's primary function in men is to help with proper sexual maturity but there are several functions it is actually responsible for. The metabolite DHT has been found to be a direct causation of male and female pattern baldness hair loss. Inhibiting the effects of DHT have been shown to slow or stop hair loss.

Male Pattern Baldness Example

DHT can cause problems with a man's prostrate and studies in to this were how the idea that DHT could affect balness were what led researchers to conclude the it could also be a causation agent for pattern baldness.  Certain drugs were developed to treat enlarged prostrate in men.  These new drugs were in clinical trial when an interesting thing happened.  Men who had enlarged prostrates and also exhibited hair loss from suspected pattern baldness showed marked hair regrowth when they were on the drugs designed to limit the effects of DHT.  This led the researchers to do trials only on men with hair loss and then again found that hair regrew.

DHT has a tendency to bond to the follicles of the hair.  This bonding blocks the transfer of nutrition and oxygen from the blood supply.  This causes the hair follicles to become weak and thus the hair shafts do not form correctly.  Usually the hair turns soft and thin, think peach fuzz, as the blood supply is choked off.  Eventually the loss of oxygen and nutrients will cause the follicle to die and the hair shaft falls completely out.  By inhibiting the bonding of DHT the drugs that treat pattern baldness in this way allow the hair to continue to grow strong.  A revivogen review is a scientific study that would determine if applying the ingredients found in the product to the scalp has an affect on the hair loss caused by DHT.

According to the revivogen con website the product is all natural and is affective at combating the hair loss caused by the build up of dihydrotestosterone at the base of the hair in the hair follicles.  It claims there are no side effects and that the product will promote thicker hair in both men and women.  These claims have not been affectively evaluated by the FDA at this time.
