Dominican Republic- Reward of Giving to Those in Poverty
46Mission Trip to the Domonican Republic
In June, 2009, a group of 13 members of our church went to El Prado, Dominican Republic, led by Robert Hartzell, Director of Fountains of Life. This is one of the most impoverished areas of the country. This was not our first "working" trip. It still took eight months of planning and fund raising. We did everything from car washes to bake sales.
Our goals for this trip were to refurbish the small school affiliated with the local church by adding a new coat of paint and to build a playground. There are no other play grounds in this province. We arrived ready to work, despite the hot temperatures, tough working conditions and just trying to coordinate this type of effort in a bilingual culture.
Things didn't always go smoothly but we accomplished our goals with much laughter, help from the surrounding community and a sense of accomplishing something great. The smiles on the faces of the children when we finished were all the reward we needed.

What a delightful video. Watching those young people smile while living in such poverty is a sobering experience. The result was a wonderful project and I'm sure the group knew their work was very special. Roberta99
