With That Saucy Swagger, She Must Drive a Porsche

Some people seem a perfect fit for the cars they drive, like: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his Hummer, Michael Jordan and his Ferrari...

As the old saying goes, "the rich are different from you and me"; but, you'd be surprised that, in some cases, they're exactly like you and me.

See what vehicles the richest people in the world are driving.

Bill Gates

The richest man in the world, William Gates III, drives two Porsches: a 1999 Porsche 911 Convertible and a 1988 Porsche 959 Coupe.

Because of not meeting emission standards and unknown crash test ratings, Gates was unable to drive the '88 Porsche 959 for ten years. In 1998, President Bill Clinton signed a federal law making it possible for Gates to drive rare and prized Porsche on the road for the first time.

A side note: comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who may or may not be a billionaire, bought a Porsche 959 for $700,000.

Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett, the second richest man in the world and Gates' good buddy, owned a 2001 Lincoln Town Car with a license plate that read "Thrifty" - and that says it all.

In 2007, Buffett sold the car on eBay for $73,200. The Kelly Blue Book value was $11,200, and so the billionaire made another profit, which he donated to Girls, Inc., a nonprofit organization offering education programs for girls.

Larry Ellison

Founder of Oracle Software, Larry Ellison, may be the most eccentric of the richest men in the world. Besides his Russian MiG fighter jet and America's Cup racing yacht, he owns a 2006 Bentley Continental Flying Spur. It's a car built for comfort.

The company claims that its leather interior is made from eleven cowhides. And the wood interior paneling is solid walnut. It's also the world's fastest production four-door vehicle.

Steven Ballmer

Like Warren Buffett, Steven Ballmer, the current CEO of Microsoft, prefers Lincolns; in his case, a 1998 Lincoln Continental. He stays true to his Motor City roots. His father worked for Ford Motor Company for 30 years.

Ingvar Kamprad

IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad, makes Warren Buffett look like a big spender. Despite being the fourth richest man in the world, Kamprad owns a 14-year-old Volvo 240 GL and he still takes the bus in his native Sweden.

He's so cheap, he often tells employees to write on both sides of the paper...
