2 into 1 Harley Exhaust Review
One of the first things most new Harley Davidson owners change on their motorcycles is the exhaust system and one of the more popular systems as of late is the Rinehart 2 into 1 Harley pipe. Rinehart is a sibling company to the venerable BUB enterprises, also very well known in the Harley Davidson exhaust pipe world.
Rinehart 2 into 1 Review
It would seem that one of the first requirements for any potential Harley exhaust purchaser to know is how does the pipe sound? Does it sound good? Certainly reasonable questions but ones that are surprisingly difficult to answer. After all, what sounds great to one user, might sound horrible to another. Sound is very subjective, so I will try to share my thoughts on it and maybe you can get a better idea from the video clip.
A 2 into 1 Harley pipe is typically a deeper sound than the more traditional 2 into 2 style exhaust. This can vary dramatically of course, depending on the exact pipes but in general it will hold true. When I say deeper, what I mean is that it almost has more of a "bass" sound to it and is a little bit quieter at part throttle than the 2 into 2. At WOT they will still wail like a good harley pipe should, but is more quiet the rest of the time.
I have run a number of different pipes on various motorcycles and the 2 into 1 style sounds the best to me by far. I like the deeper and more gutteral sound and it's my favorite by far. The Rinehart 2 into 1 fits the description that I have laid out perfectly. Deep and low at part throttle and wails at WOT. The Rinehart harley pipe sounds great!
Rinehart 2 into 1 Quality
The next question that any aspiring purchaser would want to know is what kind of quality is this pipe? Again a fair question and one that is easier to answer than the noise question. From the minute you take it out of the box, the Rinehart 2 into 1 Harley pipe simply exudes quality and you can tell that it is an excellent example of a great 2 into 1 Harley pipe.
The chrome plating is generous, deep and lustrous and simply looks awesome. The heat shields are thick and beefy and the muffler body is double walled to prevent discoloration. The flanges are thick and strong and the pipe has enough "heft" to it that you know it isn't some flimsy piece of junk. It simply feels good in your hands.
The brackets and components that come with the pipe are strong and function well and all of the hardware necessary to install was included. The only thing you will need to pick up is a new set of exhaust flange gaskets from Harley Davidson or some other aftermarket source. I personally recommend the SE header gaskets, they are cheap, readily available and work great.
Rinehart 2 into 1 Performance
Most Harley owners replace the exhaust to get that coveted Harley sound and whatever performance increase they get is an extra little benefit. That isn't really the case with a 2 into 1 Harley pipe. This style of pipe will give a reasonably significant performance increase due to the collector design.
The best way for me to describe the gain you get from a pipe like this is that the torque in the midrange (2k rpm to 4500rpm) will improve significantly. Where you once had to downshift, you can now just roll on the throttle and the bike will have enough torque to motor on down the road. This might not sound like a big deal but it makes for a much more enjoyable to ride motorcycle.
In addition to the mid-range torque benefits, it will also pull much harder throughout the RPM range as well. From a performance standpoint, a 2 into 1 pipe will outperform a 2 into 2 Harley pipe all day long. So if performance is your game, then a good 2 into 1 Harley pipe is the perfect choice and the Rinehart 2 into 1 pipe is just that. A great pipe.
Rinehart 2 into 1 Review Summary
To summarize, the Rinehart 2 into 1 Harley pipe is a solid choice no matter what aspect you place more emphasis on. It is a great looking pipe that really dresses up a Harley Davidson. It sounds great and will give you what you crave when it comes to that "Harley Sound" and it's no slouch in the performance department either. I installed one on my 2007 FXSTB and the pipe was a huge improvement over the 2 into 2 pipe that I replaced it with.
