While ringing in the ears can just come and go and can be ignorable for some, it can be debilitating for others. Of the 66 million people in the United States that have tinnitus, 12 million of them are seriously affected by it that they have not lived their normal lives. It is not a disease, though, but a symptom of an underlying medical condition. Its four main causes are noise-induced cochlear damage, sinus problems or allergies, stress and Meniere's disease.

That there is no cure for ringing in the ears should not frustrate you and allow it to affect your normal life. Some steps can actually be taken to reduce the unwanted sound to the extent that you can ignore it, which is much like getting cured of it. Here are some tips:

1. Do not think about it as much as possible.

If you are very conscious about the unwanted sound, it will keep on distracting you. Keeping yourself busy can help you forget about it. Do the things that you enjoying doing – listening to your favorite songs at a moderate volume, play with your pet, or anything that would work for you.
