The ringing in the ear that you have been experiencing is real, and you are not making it up. The noise has a source although it is not external. In medical terms, it is called tinnitus, which is defined as the perception of sound in one or both ears or in the head where no external source is present. Even though it usually comes as a ringing noise, it may also come as either a hissing, buzzing, humming, roaring, clicking, or whistling noise.

When you have ear ringing, you are being warned that your body has acquired an unhealthy condition. Of all its causes, cochlear damage brought about by repeated exposure to loud noises is the most common. It has been found out that around 90% of the cases of tinitus is caused by noise-induced cochlear damage. And this figure seems to have no way of going down, especially in this generation of iPods and similar MP3 players.

Stress, sinus problems or allergic reactions, and Meniere's Disease are also known as the main causes of tinitus. Other known causes include presbycusis or age-associated loss of hearing, temporomandibular join disorder (TMJ), head and neck injuries, muscle tension, thyroid disorder, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Because ringing in the ear is a symptom and not a medical condition in itself, there is no known cure for it, as of yet at least. What you can do is to take certain steps to reduce it to ignorable. But first, it is important that what caused your tinnitus is determined with a fair degree of certainty.

Having determined the root cause, have a remedy that is prepared to focus on the root cause of the unwanted sound and not just its symptoms. Good examples of remedies that address this are homeopathic tinnitus remedies. There is actually a specific homeopathic remedy prepared for each of the main causes. For them to yield successful results, however, there are factors that you need to consider.

One is how you manage stress. You should make efforts to control stress as it tends to aggravate or trigger the ringing noise. Certain treatments can help you with it, including counseling, biofeedback, meditation, and relaxation. A stress relief formula can also be helpful.

The other factor that should be taken into consideration is the state of your immune system. Thus, boost your immune system by having a healthy diet, proper and regular exercise, and enough sleep. You may supplement these with an immune boost formula.

Ringing in the ear can prove to be debilitating if you let it take control of you, and you would not want this happen to you. So together with the remedies available either commercially or naturally, do your best to carry with you a positive attitude all the time.
