Roaring in Ears: How to Know If you Have Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is basically illustrated as a loud roaring in ears but occurring without a source for the noise.  There is a probability that 1 in 5 people have a tinnitus at some extent.  So try to pause and think if you have already heard a sound like this or something that is similar like for example a ringing, buzz, humming, hissing, clicking, or ticking noise.  If you do, then you have tinnitus.

Tinnitus is a hearing malady that results from a malfunctioning auditory nerve.  Our auditory nerve is found in the cochlea and it delivers wrong signals to the brain when the hair cells in our ear canals get damaged from constant exposure to loud noise. Our brain, which interprets the sound, commits the mistakes of still letting us hear a sound and we may hear it as a roaring in ears.

It is not enough to know that you hear such unusual noises that you are not supposed to hear.  You must see your doctor and consult about the symptom that you have.  Though most causes of tinnitus are not serious health problems, it pays to be extra careful and take an extra step ahead to protect you from the possibility having a serious health problem cause your tinnitus.  Though it happens rarely, tinnitus may indicate problems like tumors, high blood pressure, and atherosclerosis. 

There are actually two types of tinnitus: subjective and objective tinnitus.  Subjective tinnitus is the most common among the two and it is the type of tinnitus that makes us hear a noise which only we alone can hear.  Objective tinnitus on the other hand, is the less common among the two and with a noise heard that may also be heard by the person examining the patient either thru the use of a stethoscope or just drawing near the ear.  The sound heard is quite different from the subjective type as it is felt in a pulsing manner and coincides with the beat of your heart.

Whether you’re a male or female, young or old, rich or poor, you are prone to getting a roaring in ears.  So if in any case you will notice hearing a noise like one, stop what you are doing and listen well.  Observe the noise that you are hearing, its duration and intensity and try to compare it the next time you hear the same noise.  This helps you when you make your visit to your doctor.
