Rob Brown's Motivation
59An Unpaid Telephone Bill
Just watched Finding Forrester again the other night. Besides being somewhat of a movie critic, I'm also hoping a movie might be encouraging as well; you know a crane to move me gently but forcefully in the direction I should go. Anyway, Rob Brown is the star of the movie as well as a first-time actor co-starring with Sean Connery no less - a favorite of mine only when he got older. Believe it or not, Rob needed to pay a telephone bill. When he saw the open call flyer posted in the New York prep school he attended, he simply saw it as a means to an end: to pay the telephone bill. He just figured if he got the part of a sixteen year they were looking for, he would have solved the unpaid telephone bill problem. Don't stories like this just floor you? Of course he got the part and had the adventure of his life beginning working with Sean Connery who always likes to mentor young actors and Director Gus Van Sant, famed for Good Will Hunting. One has to wonder what turn Rob's life would have taken if he hadn't take the chance.
It's refreshing to see that success hasn't blinded Rob to what's important. Even after another movie, "Coach Carter", there's no star dust in his eyes. He has integrity with well-grounded honesty and healthy motivations. Rob is comfortable with who he is and very realistic about what he can and can't do.
When there are no pressing engagements, Rob can be found with his down to earth buddies, with his schools books in tow or perhaps reading a new script.
Anyone else have an unpaid bill? There's a dangling carrot or compelling motivation out there for you somewhere.
