Computer technology can be found throughout our everyday life's, and in today's world it's also fighting crime. The movie "Robocop" brought to our attention the thought of artificial intelligence and the capabilities it holds. However, AI is not new. The phrase artificial intelligence was coined by John McCarthy from Darthmouth College, 1956. Original computers were huge structure and worked very slowly, therefore I don't believe anyone in 1956 could have imagined the advancements of the technology in today's world. Nevertheless, Today computer calculate, see, hear and think faster than humans. At our currently pace, AI technology will have a larger roll in our everyday life's.

- Sight Recognition - Recognition software is being used for all sorts task. A few examples would be: Airports are using facial recognition software to spot known terrorists -- Police are using recognition software to locate cars with outstanding tickets
- Video Enhancement - crime videos are often enhanced to get a better visit of crime scenes and criminals
- Video Capture - Cameras are being used in red lights for those of us you run them
- Databases - Today many states/cities have websites with database of their most wanted
- Tracking - IP addresses are commonly used to track sexual offenders online activities
- Voice Recognition
- And the list goes on.. to even completing a police job application online
Note: Government spending in computer technology has increased every year.
The Future
The Robocop or Artificial Intelligence implementations have provided speeding and an invaluable asset with respect to crime. Although the algorithms are still powered by man, no one can deny the benefits we have experienced via the computer. We all have the capability to work faster, smarter, easier thanks to the computer.
