Robot Barman Out On The Pull

A lot of people may not take too kindly to this new invention. And who could blame them? After all this little robot could replace the work of thousands of barmen and women.

The combination of both beer and technology created this automatic pump puller. The U.K and Japan created this robot barman to stop people waiting at the bar.

There are plenty of day-to-day annoyances that get up our proverbial nose but one of the worst has got to be waiting an unreasonably long time to get served at a bar.

Whether it's understaffing on the busiest day of the week or the penchant to hire village idiots with goldfish memories, something needs to be done.

Built using robotics and animatronics, it can rustle up draught ales and bottles and consistently serve people in under two minutes, which allegedly saves the average person a rather shocking 13 minutes of waiting time at the bar. Of course this means more drinking time, which means more profits for pubs so don't be surprised to see these popping up sooner than you'd think.

It's currently doing the rounds (groan) at Selfridges in Oxford Street and took a team of eight engineers 200 man hours to build. Mr. Asahi is also trained to engage in polite banter with the public and the creators took great delight in announcing that its arms rival a Gladiator's for strength (for the love of God why?).

Assuming it doesn't malfunction and go on a beer fuelled rampage it'll move on from its London job this week to other Selfridges locations on a national tour, dates below if you're in the area, followed by a video of it in action!

  • Manchester: 10-14 July
  • Nottingham: 18-19 July
  • Edinburgh: 24-26 July
  • Glasgow: 25 July
  • Newcastle: 1-3 August
  • Birmingham: 6-7 September
  • Leeds: 10-13 September
  • Birmingham: 18-20 September

Sure, robots like 'Mr. Asahi' will put people out of jobs and cut down on social interaction but that's tough luck frankly, we want a beer and we want it now.

Hey, it was pouring some foamy beers though! LOL. Be fun to have one around. Good bartenders will never be replaced anyway, they provide atmosphere that many pubs require to survive.

Ye, but at least it's entertaining! Lol

Used to be a bartender and I can honestly say it's one of the best jobs I've ever had!

There's nothing better than having a cold beer and a few laughs with the locals...
