73Robotic technology and the digital age snake
The robotic snake is a marvel of today's robotic technology. It wasn't so long ago that robot surgery and other intuitive surgical procedures such as the da vinci prostate surgery, the robotic heart surgery, and other automated medical techniques would have been thought of as mere science fiction novel ideas. But medical technology is flexible technology and the robotic industry has grown by leaps and bounds.
Let's have a quick look at robotic technology through a rather simple design, relative to the much more complex automation technology of this thriving robotic age.
The robotic snake
By it's design the robotic snake is a simple robotic system. It slithers and curls it's way through the habitat of man like any real live snake does. If it was covered in snake skin it could very well pass as the real thing. That prospect may not be such a far away concept either if the advancements of robotic sensors and other technology systems continue to advance at the current pace.
The robotic snake is loaded and guided by artificial intelligence software and this ai software allows for input an output of computer data that is loaded into it's circuitry. The snake is actually data mining it's way through the environment and gathering information from each of it's sensors.
The computer industry is not without it's choices of such sensors.
There are sensors for almost all elements in nature.
Here's a short list:
- motion sensors
- temperature sensors
- photo sensors
- environmental sensors
- liquid level sensors
The list is long and the robotic engineers working to perfect even what is considered a simple design by today's standards have to code programs that enable the robotic snake to work as a unit by identifying and correlating one element with another.
Wait isn't that what the human mind does for the human body or the real live snakes central nervous system does for it's body.
That's the marvel of such technological mechanical systems controlled by computer data.
The robotic snake and all other such engineering projects have become the work of a whole new field of professionals called the mechatronics engineer.
The mechatronics engineer
The mechatronics engineer is a real specialist.
Mechatronics is a combination word which means mechanical and electronics. There the mechatronics engineer's specialty is that of a professional who builds projects through the synergy of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. But those two disciplines must also consider control engineering and computer engineering in order for the designed instruments to work properly if it is to be of any market value. So all of these disciplines are the domain of the mechatronics engineer.
The robotic snake is one such project. It is a marvel of technology already but one can only imagine the possibilities that such an instrument could do for the future of man.
The future of the robotic snake
In the next few videos here we are given the opportunity to see the robotic snake shoot out a stream of water. It seems like such a simple task at first but then you have to consider the hours that a team of computer engineers would have to have put into all of these systems in order to have them work in synchronicity.
Consider that this robotic snake could be that next generation of fireman's best friend and that would only be one place where this industrial robot could be used.
It seems like the future of the robotic snake is the future of mankind.
It gives hope and presents dangers all at the same time. If one thinks far into the future then it is hard to imagine what the real possibilities or implications for mankind are.
However for the near future the possibility is that the robotics industry might somehow bring about a revival of global economies.
Preparing to be a mechatronics engineer is a process of education that can be done in real time universities or through online mechatronics engineering courses.
It seems like a great career for the right individual.
Operations of Synergy
If we step away from the simple robotic snake design which is not so simple really we can be marvelled by the systems used currently in the operating rooms of the some of the best medical hospitals in the world.
The following videos give a brief sense of the power of robotics engineering and the surgical robotic procedures mentioned before.
The da vinci prostatectomy is seen in the videos below and the next video is about the operating room of the future.
