If you have ever sat on a basic, wooden rocking chair for more than a few minutes, I'll bet you understand the necessity for rocking chair cushions. Perhaps, I just have a low tolerance for discomfort, but to me, rocking chair cushions are essential. I need that soft barrier between my derriere and the rocking chair. If you can relate, do read this hub, won't you? If a cushy pillow need be between you and your chair, we have something in common. It's not every day we discuss rocking chair pillows or cushions in our lives, but they come in a range of styles, and something with a little style is the kind of cushion that is right for me. There is quite a range, indeed.

Cushions for rocking chairs come in plush style, plump style, full back and bottom, over-sized, and a simple, comfy square for the buttocks.

You can get them in solid colors, checks, plaid, corduroy, floral print, striped, and other patterns. And they come in a variety of fabrics. Cotton, synthetic, cotton blended with polyester -- you will find these for sure. But look hard enough, and the greener materials you will find. If dye-free, organic cotton or hemp cloth is important to you, rest assured that cushions of this ilk are available for your purchase. Just a word of advice -- no matter the style and fabric you seek, make sure you also look for chair cushions that are sturdy.

I can't tell you how many times I have been sitting on a chair cushion and torn its rather delicate straps -- the feature that typically ties the cushion to the chair. I can't tell you, because I've done it so many times a relative or friend who reads this might recall an incident when I visited their home and they found their straps busted after. Ripped right out of the seam!

In short, I have seen many a cushion strap go bust. You can avoid this. Go sturdy or don't go at all! Look for thicker straps, double-stitching, even Velcro. If you want your cushion sets to last and provide lots of comfortable rocking chair rocking evenings, this guy here says go with durability.

Now, when you are ready to buy rocking chair cushions, you have a range of places to shop. Look in your yellow pages, of course. Look under home furnishings, or a similar heading. A chain store like Bed, Bath & Beyond will have a good selection. Or if you live near a Cracker Barrel -- and country style is your aim -- head there for your cushy pillows. Any store that you know of that reminds you of a country store, but sells home furnishings, will definitely have options for you to consider.

Not everyone lives within convenient distance of places to purchase rocking chair cushions. In this case, there are indeed online options. You might try BedBathAndBeyond.com, or Amazon. eBay is another good source.

You might be happiest with an online retailer that specializes in cushions for rocking chairs. CushionSource.com sells all sorts of cushions, including custom rocking chair cushions made to your specifications. The company also offers a range of fabrics, and many with a 5-year, no-fade warranty. Fabric names include: Natural, Canvas, Vellum, Serene Stripe Sun n' Shade. This may cost more than an average, ho-hum cushion, but Cushion Source's slogan is Superior Quality, Guaranteed.

Now, that is I cushion with which I can rock.
