Rockstar Vocals Can Be Made With Proper Breathing

How do you react when it's time to step up to the microphone and let out a fast-paced stream of lyrics in under 10 seconds? Are you almost gasping for sweet air to make it through? Are your fans trying to wake you up as you pass out on stage?

I really hope that isn't happening, but you get the point. Sometimes it's difficult to sing a long string of words without losing your breath, and then be ready for the next one.

Read these helpful tips on improving your air support. They'll explain to you about good posture and keeping your air supply in check so you can support your rockstar vocals.

1. Stand tall or sit up straight.

This is a very elementary tip to consider but I've viewed many singers that slouch like a bell-tower worker. Your rockstar vocals are going to follow very closely with how you carry yourself on stage.

If you're sitting in a chair, be sure to sit up and smile. If you're standing and moving, bring your shoulders back and elongate your spine. Not only will you make room for more air, you're gonna present yourself more professionally, and in the end you'll get more positive feedback from the crowd.

2. Inflate your stomache like a basketball.

Practice keeping your shoulders stationary while expanding at your belly. This will make more room for the air you need to power your rockstar vocals.

A good exercise to do for a few nights before you go to bed is to lay on your back and feel your stomache expand and contract while you breath. Breath in for 10 counts, hold it for 5, and breath out for 10 counts slowly.

3. Take little sips of air, not giant gulps.

You'll never be able to sing with rockstar vocals if you constantly take in giant mouthfuls of air. I think that the bouncer in the front wants to keep his hair-piece.

With your stomache is expanded you should be full of air. You'll only need to use a little bit at a time in a focused stream. When it's time to get more air, your belly should still be expanded, so you'll only need a little sip of air at a time.

4. Focus on expanding your diaphragm.

Your diaphragm houses your lungs and they can easily expand and contract depending on how you master them. Practice talking while keeping your diaphragm expanded.

This will allow your lungs to fill and deflate easier letting you moderate the flow of air better. You really need to house more air for your rockstar voice to last longer.

5. Don't let it all out at once.

As wrong as it is to swallow all the air in the audience, it's the same with letting it all out. I've seen singers and screamers that try to blow over the mic stand with their rockstar voice. Then when the next line comes, nothing comes out!

Don't let this be you. Focus on your diaphragm and your belly and take note of the air that's filling and leaving your body. Once you practice a little, you'll notice that a tiny bit of air can power a massive voice on stage.

6. Relax your muscles between each song.

Remember, your rockstar voice is an instrument made up of all sorts of muscles, bones, and organs working together. Just like everything else, it needs its rest.

When the song is over let yourself relax for a moment. You can let your shoulders down, let your belly contract and speak normally. Before you know it, you'll need to work those muscles all over again for the next tune.

Let's face it. It's difficult to let a out a huge string of notes and not lose our breath sometimes. You may not always hit it, but these tips can definitely help you improve.

Just remember to have good posture, inflate your belly, move the air in and out in a controlled fashion, and relax. You'll have the crowd swooning in no time.
